It absolutely matters. Why wouldn't lore matter in a game/series filled with lore? It may seem minor to some, but to people that do care about lore, this is really important.

There's also the fact that the SMN book is called the Omnitome, so it would make sense that the Omnirod would be the other caster item, given that Omni seems to be the caster prefix.

Omnitome is a Scholar's weapon from FF3 (here). Then again, they only have 1 book class, so both Cognitome and Omnitome are Scholar items there.

Greetings!
We checked on this with both the Item and Lore teams and they assured us that there is no error with those names and that those are the correctly assigned names.![]()

It would be nice to understand why the switch was made for XIV. Considering the items are taken from an established source (FF3), it doesn't seem to have any reason.

I would also like to know why. The names literally make no sense as it is. They really need to be switched.

You know, I really do need to call into question the people who are in charge of naming things on the English version. The other posters here are making an excellent point about these weapons. But there is so many more examples of weirdness in the english names.
- Titan's Granit "Gaols" should really have been named "Jails".
- Players should not be given an ability named "Internal Release".
- "Adloquium". Let's just name a highly used healing ability, something that 99% of players can neither pronounce, nor spell. How about changing it to "Galvanize"?

I mean this is just incorrect. One needs only go boot up a copy of FF3 to see it, or just go look at FF Wikia's FF3 weapons article.

Gaol is an alternate English spelling of jail. Adloquium is classic FF scholar ability, and besides, I'd rather have the vocabulary of the game follow a somewhat more cerebral standard, I couldn't care less if someone can't pronounce adloquium, all the players that I know can pronounce it just fine. All that aside, the staff/rod thing is silly, it really is backward.
