What alot of these people pining for 1.0 seem to be conveniently forgetting is... they had their chance and blew it. Yes, 1.23 could be running today, sans updates, if they, the players, actually meant to save it. After the character data was saved and the servers shut down Yoshida answered peoples cries to keep it running by opening them back up under the stipulation that the only way they'd stay up is if at least 20% of the population returned to keep playing. I played this resurrected 1.23... it was a ghost-town. Noone was playing. You'd think 20% wouldn't be a big deal but, meh. Had your chance.

Yeah it's true - except there were other parts to this, no data from those servers were gong to be carried over to 2.0, no new content would ever be made for the servers, no maintenance, and then they gave everyone their relics for every class. Basically they forced it so that there wasn't anything to do on the server anyways, it'd be like playing today and they decided to give you all allagan gear for all your classes.
