I believe you are correct as it would have been impossible to kill them at launch. The cap wasn't high enough and alot of the then vital gear wasn't implemented if it was in the dats. But I believe there was some big things I can't recall alot of the ffxi history.
Mitsuda Yasunori + Soken Masayoshi Track Collaboration 2015! <The Dream>
Again, based on shady memory here, but I think the highest HNM's available on launch were Simurgh, Roc and Serket. I don't recall them even being damaged until mid RotZ release though when the cap hit around 65.
Might be wrong though, as my memory of these times is shady at best.
I think that given the vastness of the zones we currently have, it wouldn't be hard to include giant roaming NMs and beastmen groups in the more distant regions of each area. I for one would love to see FF13-style adamantoises wandering around the northern end of La Noscea to make it feel a bit more wild and dangerous.
I love the idea, but at this point it would be additional NM's. The other night a group of us were trying to unlock some aethryte gates in Coertes. There is an awesome area called Wyrmking's Perch that is West of Ishgard. There is an old castle there. Would be awesome to put a HNM that roamed around that castle grounds just between Wyrmking's Perch and The Lance.I think that given the vastness of the zones we currently have, it wouldn't be hard to include giant roaming NMs and beastmen groups in the more distant regions of each area. I for one would love to see FF13-style adamantoises wandering around the northern end of La Noscea to make it feel a bit more wild and dangerous.
