1.8million was cited in a recent interview... Someone else can provide the link as I have forgotten where it was.Just out of curiosity I want to know where people keep getting that number from? You arent the only one that says FFXIV has around 1m+ subs.
When they released numbers some months ago, they said it was 600k active subs. I'm assuming its less than that now.
On topic: Boo maint, boo.
That's for accounts though, and not necessarily active subs.
Its on the loadstone right on the front page, says 1.8 million players.
Last one I read was november which is here and that was 1.5mil They had released a number recently thoughJust out of curiosity I want to know where people keep getting that number from? You arent the only one that says FFXIV has around 1m+ subs.

Quoting your previous "timetable":Why is being frustrated about the absurd amount of downtime make paying customers kids? And as far as entitled...your damn straight. If I pay for a service, I expect a service. This game has been down 25 hours since I joined less than a week ago. That is excessive and absurd. We all understand that there will be downtime. But the frequency is off the chart. That is what people are complaining about. It's not like people are complaining about the single 2 hour window this has been down this week and everything has been flawless in between. I have personally experienced stability problems, 90k errors, huge queues, all things you would expect from a launch week.
Feb 26 - 5 hours <-- emergency maint, actual downtime 2 hours
Feb 25 - 3 hours <-- regular, downtime little over 2 hours
Feb 21 - 3 hours <-- emergency Maint, downtime 3 hours
Feb 20 - 2 hours <-- Forum Maint
Feb 20 - 10 hours <-- announced, actual downtime 8.5 hours
Feb 19 - 2 hours <-- Forum Maint
So, your 25 hours are actually ~16 hours.
I'm not saying that this is not a lot, but PS4 beta started and preperations for patch 2.2 are undergoing, so this doesn't represent the past few months.
Why not just assume that they are not doing these maintenance to bother us, but because they think they have to be done? It's like people feel personally attacked by them, or like SE is intentionally stealing playtime from people as if they would gain anything from it. I'm sure if it was up to them they would rather not do these things and have everybody go home on time and have happy players 24/7.
All this energy wasted to complain about something so "little". Tsk. (I don't mean you in particular.)
They changed the groups a few times after that initial post there, and when they added the datacentres those basically replaced the "groups". So yea, now it's done by datacentres.Off topic, this has bugged me for a while. It stated matching for DF by Group, yet as a Sargatanasian, I have DF'd with Balmungers who are in the other group. Methinks it's actually done by datacentre, rather than group.
Please do continue with the exciting on topic comments now.

It is currently 1.8 Mil players. Let aside that the official Site has it labeled with that number, you wonder where people get those numbers from? I wonder where you get 600k from...Just out of curiosity I want to know where people keep getting that number from? You arent the only one that says FFXIV has around 1m+ subs.

My Source: click
Interview with Yoshi from this Month and just the quote you are interested in:
"The numbers are pretty impressive: a total of 1.8 million players, who've made 6.71 million characters, and played for over 400 million hours' (about 1.57 million years) worth of gameplay time."
It is quite possible they shifted groups around or made them all by datacenter. I just can't find any followup for it on Lodestone or the hotfixes.
The new named groups or (virtual datacenters) were to initially fix the login server congestion, its possible they tied the instance server grouping with them as well.

Can we get information on what this emergency maintenance was for, and is going to fix, exactly? I think a lot of customers would appreciate more transparency from your team about these things.Hello,
We'd like to take a moment to explain a bit about why we announce the Hotfix details at the timing that we do.
The reason we announce details during maintenance, or directly after, is because the maintenance are often focused on fixing bugs. As you can imagine, there are some bugs that we do not want people utilizing and therefore do not want to announce them ahead of time. Due to this, our rule is that we do not announce the content of these types of maintenance until it takes place.
On the other hand, when there is a large scale patch like patch 2.1, we release the information ahead of time and we will be doing the same for patch 2.2.
However, even for these large scale patches, if there are bug fixes that occur at the same time for such things as changes to item buyback prices, or other things related to the economy, we will not be announcing this beforehand and it will be released after the maintenance takes place.
Moving forward we will be looking into ways to improve aspects, but currently we will be announcing patch and Hotfix content based on the above policy.
