Actually I am leveling my third base class to 50 and I do run every dungeon till I reach the 50. Every dungeon done through dutyfinder. Every dungeon done in one try. No quitters. No shitstorm.Let me ask this, have all of you instantly gotten into a dungeon with a random group forged by the Duty Finder and gotten through said dungeon on one try with no one complaining about someone else, no one dying, no one quitting mid dungeon for each and every dungeon that you had to go through to complete the story?

I've been running random main scenarios for tomes. I ran all of the story dungeons in the duty finder.
I have only -ONCE- encountered a troll/rager and that was in Sunken Temple of Qarn which was optional. Don't be afraid of the duty finder. 99% of the time you get folks who want to get the dungeon done.
In the main scenario ones (Praetorium/Castrum), please do skip the cut scenes if you are asked. They are super super long and you can watch them back at the inn. Otherwise those of us running for tomes will just have to leave you behind and then you get lost :-(
First they ask to be able to solo their dungeon and they'll soon ask to be able to do their high level contents solo![]()

If you look at most other large MMOs like WOW, SWTOR, Rift, and so on, as you progress through the story you unlock dungeons that have something to do with the story but you're not required to complete them in order to unlock the next quest hub in the story. For FFXIV they chose to make these dungeons a part of the requirement to unlock the next quest hub as well as gain access to things like mounts and that is fine, I just feel they should have included a solo option in that. I don't think high-level end-game dungeons should be something you could do solo. I'm truly happy for those of you who have had better success than I have with the dungeons and with FC/guilds in games.

they already did
look up
WoW story = none liner
that why even if story A, B and C are link -> you can start with C to unlock last quest hub/dungeon...etc
(but the story will confuse the heck of you since you will stat from the end)
But FF game about story first
(they even made story just to remake the game)
next expansion you will need to do long quest for flaying mount
(no, even if you join after first patch you still need to do it or you can't use flying mount)
just like other game
solo = normal quest ( you can solo fate too)
dungeon = party unless you out level it

I kinda wonder how these kind of players who wants to solo their way to 50 would have fared in FFXI (or any older mmorpg, where you basically needed a party 5 to do everything), especially CoP, eh.
FFXIV is cakewalk compared to it. You solo story quests, you solo exploration, you solo leve, you solo leveling, and you lament because you have to party for 5 story dungeons? Damn, must me awful!
During the closed beta, Yoshida did explain the reasons: FF14 is a MMO, a game with focus on group play. Another focus are players, that are new to a MMO. He explained, the whole level phase is like a tutorial. There are serval solo contents, but the group content was on of his important points in it. They are part of the mainstory to introduce new players how to play in a group. Also the dungeons from 1-49 are designed to learn step by step how to play your class and how to use your skills you have till that level. FF14 is by design not a solo playing game.

I have to say that I enjoy solo play every once and a while. With DPS que times at 45 min for some instances why wouldn't you want to solo. But the OP is tank so your que time should be about 5 seconds. Even if you wipe in a dungeon you are back in after 5 sec. I might suggest teaching your group the mechanics of the battles and marking mobs to ensure success. I haven't had a problem tanking so far sometimes you get new people running content who need some help but most of the time things go smoothly. I do understand what the OP means about the attitude issue in dungeons though, players rushing through, healers and DPS pulling mobs and such. Super fun times.
So true. But it took hours to form a party sometimes in that game which made it artificially slow in leveling. Such a pain. But I still loved that game. Here everything is so quick, level cap in a few weeks seems crazy after paying XI.

(personal opinion, not to be construed as facts)
The designers of this game in this current form have made some decisions based on how THEY want the game to function. We have a story that at times require you to solo a fight, then at times require you to team up with other players to do a dungeon. BUT (and this is important) getting to level 50 in a basic class, not a job does not require or force you to do anything beyond FATES and side quests.
If you do not want to be forced to use the DF and you refuse to do your due diligence and research FC and find on that fits your nature then this games main story line and by extension some of the more interesting parts at the end of the game are not going to be available. This is frankly by design of the Devs. A majority of the paying gamers in this game accept and adapt to the devs requirements, and have accepted the rules of the game. At the end of the day this is in fact a MMO, so having a requirement to interact with other players is not unreasonable.
I am a vocal advocate of voting with your wallet, if this game is not meeting your needs then you are best served spending your money on games that meet your requirements.

It would be very possible to make the game have more solo play without taking the incentive to party and keep dungeons populated. As I said before in another thread somewhere, another game accomplished this by stripping all exp, money and dungeon drops from solo mode making it purely for story experience. Though it could still be hard depending on your class and gears, it was do-able. Still kept dungeons populated and you would still see people shouting for dungeon parties or members all the time because the focus was still on partying for gears. But despite how much I'd love to have more solo play (or at least more solo duties for quests since, despite loving the game, 95% of the quests are boring or are nothing but travel back and forth >.>) I still have to agree that Final Fantasy XIV is a party designed game. You can see it in the game itself all the time, from requiring you to do dungeons to giving higher lvl players incentive to do do dungeons. So even on the extremely low chance they WERE working on a solo mode, I severely doubt we would see it even in a few years. And I doubt they would because their focus is obviously on party play and keeping dungeons populated. So it would just come off as counter productive to them, I think, to allow people to solo the entire game. And even though I would LOVE to have solo modes for Castrum Meridianum and the Praetorium, I'd HATE to see people lose the incentive to even do it because, well...you can't even do it at all then if no one signs up lol
The unique perspective of Touhou in my own words and why it is different from the typical game or manga c:
