TSW also had pretty good positional updating for actually avoiding those aoes too, something that FFXIV with an exponentially bigger budget can't get right. lolTSW does something like this, which would have been a nice addition. You can see it here. When the white lines inside the arc of the attack touch, then the attack goes off.
Then again, that game also has a dodge system, which I don't think we need at all.
I have to second/third this. I played a lot of TSW the game had its flaws, the positional markers were not one of them, they were excellent.
