Let me explain it a little of the group dynamics of a larger free company and misconceptions many people have about them. Our free company personally have players on 24/7 and we specifically, have since beta gone out and recruited from different time zones so there is a balanced group of members online 24/7 from around the world. We ourselves are an all adult fc so with this respect people have jobs, families, college/university etc. So the schedules of many players can be scattered in times frames and zones. People working night shifts, or night owls. etc and the lists go one to when people prefer or can play their game.
With a group of say 500 members say 125 per time zone regionally ... North American EST, PST, European, and oceanic, of which maybe 20-30 play daily and regularly due to disabilities, retired, unemployed, house wife/husband or school breaks. Another 10-20 per day during the respective time frame maybe only log in once a day for an hour or so while others may only be able to log in every few days. This allows for 4-8 man dungeons to be run as well as allow for people to take the time to help others who are new and up and coming in the game. Some time zones lead into others and enables people to pick up and do most things within the free company any time of day or night without having to deal with the horrors of duty finders etc. This begins to grow your family/free company. At the moment due to the game still being fairly new a lot of people come play for 2-3 months and just stop playing. Clean up your inactive lists and take the time to recruit and make new friends. We were all new to MMO's at one point and time and with this being a sony console exclusive there are a lot of new players and great people out there who can use your guidance so reach your hand out and help them. You can always re-invite old friends who return to the game 4-5 months down the road or later. It's us who make the community so lets try to make it the best we can for the long run.
