Actually scape.. they didn't ignore people from beta. They had server issues that were too importent that needed to be fixed. Or those things people wanted was going to turn out bad.

But ya I agree the zones are a bit complicating to "figure out" I perfer grinding mobs over levequests sometimes. And its hard to find a "safe" area to do this. There is always the 1 high level aggressive mob hiding amoung lower levels. I do miss the mobs gradualling getting harder in ffxi. But I like the zones so far as is. Just change mob placement.

Either way zone diversity is a good thing, especially within such large regions, and I doubt anyone would be against that.

I don't think I have anything other to offer this thread other than my support.

I agree, anyone who says the zone areas (not the difference between the large zones: Black Shroud, Thanalan, etc) are very different have been playing with their eyes closed, its a lot of the same texturing and color schemes.

Something after seeing work by SE (any FF title prior to) you would least expect. In fact I was not expected the world to look anything like it does based on A) the teaser trailers (I mean look at the trailer again and tell me where that zone they are looking at is) and B) the initial world map looks like it would have plenty of nice, various and visually stunning zones. I mean we get mention of a Volcano near Limsa Lominsa yet we have no access to it, nor can we really see it (unless someone has a good picture of an active volcano and I've just missed a good camera angle). Also there are no snowy zones, we have mountains, and usually they have snow (at least all the mountains I have seen and I used to live near them).

It really is a shame that all we have are: Desert, Cave-Forest, Plateaus, Mountain base, Marsh. And they claim that the world is as big as XI was at release, well I believe their were like 15-20 zones at the initial release of XI each with pretty different looks to them. Such a shame we only have five different terrain zones in XIV.

I'm all kinds of delighted to hear that the existing zones will receive a re-working. I've a lot of respect for the fact that the dev team is willing to make fundamental changes to the game; they're certainly not taking the easy way out! haha

The forums were made for this kind of thread. Thanks muchly everyone! <3

Big thumbs up to all the folks that kept this thread up and alive. I think the dev know now more than ever what they need to do. The community has spoken!

What an excellent thread. I read the OP, a few responses all around, the Bayohne update, and the end... So, more support for you, from me. The images are wonderful. I like the actual zones the way they are, but if the dev team wants to put in the work to redesign everything, I'm completely fine with that. As far as mob placement though, I would love to see that reworked.

I finally understand /10char! You use it to fill up empty space because you need 10 characters for a post. I was going to just say "/signed".

Will also be interesting to see what all these closed off areas look like. Lots of places have NPCs blocking the path. Granted, they will probably look just like random caves but would be nice if there was some cool stuff behind those invisible walls.

Can't wait to see the plans they have. It'll be around august I reckon before they put any ideas out.

Just cool to think it'll change. I'd be happy to pay for a 1 week maintenance if it meant a huge revamp of the zones.

My view is that the area in the trailers is Dravania. In the background you can see huge mountains which look bigger than the ones in Coerthas, and if you look on the world map the biggest mountains in Eorzea are just north of Dravania. There's also rivers in the area which could have those waterfalls. But who knows? The area could be Mor Dhona and Silvertear Falls before it became a wasteland, which is one theory I've heard.

There actually is a visible volcano, you can see it from Iron Lake. But it doesn't look active. That could easily be changed however. That area is probably its own region and another one that isn't yet implemented.
