The more gil they gobble up, the less gil in the hands of players and the more likely-hood of people buying gil.

Its a convenient feature with a huge drawback.
True, but it will also be pretty easy for SE to identify these people as well, so all of that gil will go away once those accounts are banned.

Any system has its pros and cons, I'm willing to deal with the cons in this case.

Clearly you don't understand the cons enough.

If RMT's gobble up a ton of gil, they drive the value of gil up. Gil becomes scarcer and scarcer. The prices of expensive items like FC-lots will only drop to 50% of their original value which is significantly high still.

Removing their gil doesn't solve the problem they create. The value of gil will increase if we remove them but the gil sinks and etc stay constant. Meaning we fall further and further away from such features as they gobble gil and GM's remove them. Even if they aren't removed, that gil is trapped with them, meaning they pretty much have removed that gil anyways from the market system. Now we have to readjust those values of gil sinks which now involves re balancing the entire game.

The cons in this situation are far more greater then you think.

This is why we don't see buyback systems as a predominate system in P2P MMOs, were virtual currency is weighted a little heavier then F2P MMOs.

Like I said, Its a convenient feature with a huge drawback.

The game we pay to play shouldn't be driven by RMTs... Basically; the drawbacks aren't my problem, and I expect SE to figure out these kind of issues, or lose my business.

No, I'm not going to quit over this issue alone, and one account is fairly insignificant, but the more SE is unable to deliver based on these kinds of issues, the sooner the game fails.

This game needs true dynamic events and a true dynamic NPC buy order system as well.
    - Not the leves
    - Not the GC items
Those are scripted. They are predictable. They are limited to only a few items.

    -----------------
    - All items that can be crafted should be fair game.

    - NPC buy order requests should come at any time, not always JP midnight, not always Monday.
    E.g.
GC needs new weapons for their elite troops - Orders 100 lvl 50 spears to be filled in 1 day.
Players completes buy order. GC launches attack and wins. Result = New items for sale in town for limited time period.

    E.g.
Famine in Ul'Dah - Philanthropist orders 1000 carps of any type to feed the crowd.
Players completes buy order. Result = Cheaper prices on NPC items in town (well-fed laborers = better productivity) for limited time period.

    - Player completes quest, and gets access to quest linkpearl announcing such orders.

Forgive the resurrection of an old thread. I would have responded in a more timely fashion if subscriptions actually worked here.

While you're right about the significant potential for RMT abuse, preventative measures against RMT (much like DRM) must always stop short of inconveniencing legitimate players.

We also used to have the ability to repair others' equipment. I also doubt this was intentionally removed to combat RMT.

This is what we need on both counts.
