Buy Orders

I surprisingly did not find a pre-existing thread suggesting this, so I'm making one myself.

It would help both the players and the game's economy in general if we could post buy orders on the market.

As an example, if we wanted to sell some darksteel ore in such a system, we could see listings not just of all the people trying to sell the ore (most importantly, the lowest prices at which it is offered and the associated quantities and qualities) but also listings of the people trying to BUY the ore and choose whether we wanted to instantly sell it to the highest buy order(s) or instead list it at a higher price and hope someone buys it later. Likewise, if we're trying to buy the ore, we could see listings for people offering to sell it at various prices and buy some instantly or instead post an offer to buy it at a lower price in hopes that the next person looking to sell some will choose our instant gil rather than asking a higher price.

Beyond simple convenience, this will also work to prevent easy manipulation of the market by people that buy sufficient quantity of an item to effectively hide the history of it selling at a low price to then turn around and monopolize its sale at a significantly higher price. The vast majority of these lower-priced items would not be sitting around waiting to be bought by the guy trying to inflate the price and get people to buy RMT gil but instead have already went directly to various buyers via buy orders.

I loved the buy orders in gw2, I wish more mmo's had them. They're so convenient, being able to set a price and quantity that you need. I also liked them setting the default sell price to the current price, a lot of people wouldn't bother to change it, so less undercutting.

Not sure if it is logistically possible within the coding, but, hopefully it is something SE would consider adding down the road.

The idea of using the Marketboard for some Buyer Mode is a great idea!

It would help stabilize the markets, in that people would look to see what people want to Buy, and sell to the highest Buyer first, helping to keep prices higher. If someone wants to Buy HQ Buttons in a Blanket at 50 Gil apiece, but the market for them is at 500 Gil apiece, then no one is going to want to sell to that Buyer. On the other hand, if the market for something is 50 Gil apiece, and someone is willing to pay double that (100 Gil apiece) to get it faster, people who are selling the items are more likely to sell to that Buyer first, rather than the open market.

They discussed a "wish list" feature being implemented. Sounds similar to this buy order, but wont' know for sure until they talk more in depth about it. Regardless, this does sound like an amazing idea and would be very helpful.

I would like to place orders to buy certain materials at my preferred price.

I would like to fill orders for items I have but don't want to just sell to vendors.

I would use both sides of buy orders, and I would be happy to have the inventory space. I love this idea.

In FFXIV 1.0 in the Market Wards you could "Buy" items. Basically you would put an item on your retainer and put a quantity you would like to buy and when players visit your retainer they could sell to you. I used this often for shards.
