It's a silly, childish, and far too cartoony idea for this game. It worked in WoW because everything thing looked like a cartoon anyway. Works in games like Ragnarok for the same reason...wouldn't look right at all in FFXIV.

Too cartoony? I'm sorry... but really?
This game is hardly the pinnacle of realism, both in it's general look or it's cut scene animations, especially if you ever go talk to Hildebrand; And no matter how "realistic" anyone thinks this game is, i don't see how it would harm your gameplay experience is effected by a toggle where only the people who want the added experience of chat bubbles would receive it.
The people that talk like strike me as the hipsters that sit in coffee shops, judging everything as pedestrian in a vain attempt to make it seem like only their particular tastes are relevant.

It's called options, my friend.
There's two groups, one group wanting chat bubbles with an optional toggle so that both groups can play the game as they most prefer; And then the other, which is throwing a tantrum about how if they don't want the toy, no one else should be allowed to play with it either.
It's just a shame that SQE is always going to listen to the ones that want to deny things others, because.. no reason, just don't want to give people the option; Though in a genre where quality of life options end up making or breaking you, it seems odd they would ignore this section of the player base.
Now, don't get me wrong, SQE's game isn't going to fail on the exclusion of chat bubbles, but they're making a habit of ignoring the customer base (and their competition) and it will come back to bite them in the end; I can only hope for the games sake (and those that like it) that SQE does not make the wrong decisions.

They've denied this suggestion twice. Both times for the same reason. I think it's pretty clear they aren't doing because even they don't see this as an important feature deserving of development time. Nothing more. Nothing less. This is regardless of anyone's opinion from this forum. On this point I think they've made the right call. This isn't an important feature at all.

And it doesn't strike you as odd that they have to keep shooting down this idea? If they keep having to shoot it down, that means that their customer base keeps asking for it.. which means that at the very least, their consumers think it's a worthwhile thing for the company to look into doing and most companies would at least try to explore the option or tell them why they can't deliver the feature; It's basic customer relations to try and explain -why- the customer can't have what they're asking for, rather than just saying they can't have it and should deal with it.They've denied this suggestion twice. I'm not looking forward to SQE's numbers after things like Wildstar, ESO and Warriors of Draenor are released. I don't want the game to fail, there's parts of it i like, but i'm not going to give the game a free pass on things i dislike (especially as a monthly subscriber); But i think SQE's pride will get the better of them again.

Lol. This game isn't going to pass or fail based on popup boxes for text. Hyperbole to the extreme.
Also, compared to other threads with demanded features this one comes in on the low side. Stubborn players that want one feature, but continue to bring it up despite being shot down, does not constitute a large portion of their player base. A 100 page thread about server lag vs a 15 page thread about pop-up boxes is a very different thing. Especially when over half of this thread is people who don't want it.

frostmagemari,
The idea is silly. Now, you respond with, "NO U!" then we repeat the cycle.
Also, this demand you speak of that wants to have them...where is this large customer base you speak of? Where is the demand for it.
Original post has 25 likes that roughly represents 0.000025% of the games population.
Does this help:

I wonder if people realize how short-sighted they are being? Ignoring the customer base? Because they denied the request of chat bubbles?!?
I guess there isn't a 100 page Quality of Life thread that has literally dozens of comments from the CMs about things that have been implemented since launch. Nope, I can't see how many HQ items I have on the main gathering screen now. Nahhhh, the names of the zones you are teleporting to don't show up right next to the town's name now instead of flipping back and forth between port/map. CT must also still show "In Progress" on the DF queue because of the incessant trolling (which was literally implemented solely due to forum backlash mere weeks after the raid was put into the game). The vanity system is definitely not being implemented in 2.2. Various emotes certainly weren't made to work while sitting/mounted.
I could go on....but meh.
Like I said, I personally don't care. If chat bubbles cluttered too much, it's not above me to just toggle it off in a menu real quick. But we are talking QoL here, and IMO chat bubbles are not more important than the things they have already implemented, and are planning to implement. I, for one, am happy SE decided to take care of other things first.
People are also acting like Hvinire said 'it's never going to happen, end of story" All that was said, was 'not at this time'. I truly feel sorry for the some of the people that commented in this thread who are visually impaired in some way, and the chat screen is just too difficult to see all the time. I am actually color deficient, so you can imagine the struggle I had with Garuda HM trying to determine which one was green/red. They still haven't fixed that for me! After being over-geared it isn't a problem because the adds die fast and I can just target whichever one the rest of the party is targeting. But when I first was doing the fight in half-DL/half-AF, I had to depend on my friends in vchat to call out which add to target. Annoying much!!
But I accept I am in the minority. I dealt with it. I learned to adapt. I am not entitled to have SE change this for me because it is a hindrance. It literally only affects people in a similar situation as me. Same with chat bubbles. They may be nice to have, but they are just not a top priority on the 'to-do list'. Maybe they will re-visit this topic after they have cleared up some other things that have been requested more frequently with higher demand/positive responses? If the debate in this thread continues, maybe the post count will be enough for the developers to give it a second thought.
You gotta keep your head up!![]()
