How does it make it more difficult for the person who is actually on their job? Either the loot rules were stated in advanced in Party Finder, and they were ok with those rules joining, or in Duty Finder, they can Need the item and those people not on that job will always lose out. They can't need. They can only greed. And if they can only greed, in Duty Finder, without a Party Finder loot rules laid out in advanced, then don't be surprised if anyone else greeds or needs the item. Seems simple and not really hard on anyone.I very strongly disagree with this. It's a horrible idea. What that does is make it significantly more difficult for the person who is actually on their job. It's one thing to roll against the other healer, or other tank whatever.
You want to roll on healer gear or tank gear etc. Play the class.
So, you only roll Need if your current class can use it? If your current class cannot use it but another one will you NEVER greed it?
They can't. For your alts, they can only greed. The other people on their main? They can need. The people that greed will never win, unless the people that need only greed or pass.

We have that system. Unless I am misunderstanding you and you want ANOTHER option which is between greed and need, so that people playing the class get first dibs, then people that lotted for it, then people who greed. This would only be a slight improvement over the current system though, because for one, it would only be used if you see gear drop that no other main job wanted, and it would also be open for lotting for the other 5 potential players. It makes the whole system much more convoluted when you have the greed option there (poorly named in this instance) which could ideally be used only by people who have a class at the appropriate level to use the gear dropped. You also already have a third option at a lower priority, which is letting the item time out. I consistently see people who STILL don't understand how looting works and end up with a monk belt from CT because they never explicitly passed on the item.
I'm afraid I would be against it. I don't think anyone on their main class should ever be forced to compete against someone's non-present alt class.People have many level 50 jobs they want to gear up and are asked to go to a dungeon as a specific job to ensure a win. It would be nice if SE allowed us to specify a job they are lotting for in coil or CT or whatever that they are allowed to Need on instead of hoping those jobs will pass on it so you can get a Greed lot in.
A true paladin... will sheathe his sword.
This is a great point... Remember all the fate levelers...? When they got to end game most of them had no clue what to do and the community suffered because of it...I think its better how it is now. It forces people to play a variety of roles which is enriching not just for the player themselves but also for others as you get more of an understanding how a role works first hand. This hopefully means less people raging at a tank to use a skill they haven't gotten yet etc. Etc.
Otherwise everyone would just get full heavy allagan armour as a black mage and try and tank without any experience.
I've played games where you can roll Need on things that your current class does not need....and it sucks.
If you want loot, play on the class you want the loot on. You already can gear your alt classes in full i70DL before you even play that class.
I roll Greed on every item I come across (except in CT) for the sole reason of turning them in to my Grand Company for seals.
I buy a lot of stuff from the Grand Company (barding, minions, outfits for fun) and I just switched to Maelstrom (bought everything I wanted from Flame) so I'm needing a lot of seals to do all of my promotions.
The loot system is perfectly fine the way it. If you're on job A and an item drops for it, great, if you need it roll Need. But if an item drops for job B, then greed away and hope that no one needs it for their current job. They system is kinda hard to abuse, nothing wrong with it.
My DRG had full DL the moment I turned 50 and I'm currently leveling up a healer and already have all healing DL except for body/head combo (and my highest healing class is WHM at 38)
this game could use loot control pretty badly. loot master or have it set to everyone greed.
I misunderstood you then. No, I do not want another system. I think the way it is now works fine. People can't take gear for alts if a main is around that wants it.
I can see loot master being abused. Everything to greed and no longer have a Need roll is bad. If I am a tank or healer, I would only want to be rolling against the other tank or healer, not against ALL 7 other members of the Full Party.

MANTASTIC: I got 1017 problems, but playing FFXIV ain't one.
Llyren: Lala Tanks hit point density levels attract small planets
So much gear hits the floor in CT anyways I usually just go as w/e job I want to play and still get loot for other jobs =\
