I've had it port forwarded since release, made no difference. =(
XI patcher was different in that it had better direct support and didnt download previous patches, and was every 3-5 months.

I had the dreaded 0.0 on dl speed for a little bit, about an hour in and at 44.5% (60~80 kb/s) and 40 minutes to go. It seems like shutting down my firewall for a moment helped, but yeah, this updater is in desperate need of improvement. I hope it's the next thing on SE's list of improvements.
I had no issues, started it about 5:50 and it was done and installed by like 6:05... actually I've never had an issue with the patcher, though I know a lot do.
I'm just a bun boy, doing bun boy things.
1. L2Write (What is 'SEVER CONGESTION' anyway?)L2R They said CLEARLY patcher may be slow for some people due to SEVER CONGESTION. Iv'e NEVER had an issue so far. Learn2wait. This is nothing new guys. Wow Aion FFXI had similar issues. When you got a ton of ppl loading up on the same patching sever thingy of course ya gonna have issues. You guys skim to much and blow up over nothing.
2. Quit calling us 'guys'. It's like 'bro' or 'pal'.
3. I'm having a hard time believing you've played anything other than Facebook games at this point. I've never played an MMO where the patcher would come to a complete halt when both my firewall and port forwarding are correctly set up.

I wait on stuff ya backward thinking anti logic smart dude ^^ I do stuff next day and NEVER have an issue. So yes it is congestion I never had a horror story upload. And it only on patch day that ppl cry foul put 2 and 2 together.
its when people are trying to use the updater it gets congested. Too many people are trying to patch the game at the same time just enough for some people to get slowed, it was in the patch notes. People (there I said people you picky person)1. L2Write (What is 'SEVER CONGESTION' anyway?)

Just because SE warned that it may be slow doesn't make the reasons for it acceptable.

Interim solutions are for pansies.

Where did they say the patcher may be slow due to congestion? Because it runs off torrent. Unless, I'm going to assume the initial file, and thats why we have these stupid upload/download ratios to release congestion? Seems odd to relate server congestion to an torrent...
Edit
Ah I see your post, it will be for the initial download which then we'll seed together. Things seem to pickup after the planned maint when people come back and begin downloading/uploading.
And number three, the most important part of the argument, goes unanswered! Shocker!
