There's a fatal flaw in your rant, you seem to be under the delusion that SE implemented all this with total disregard to player feedback. It was the players who demanded AA, it was the players who demanded change. I hate to break it to you, but the devs gave us changes that the majority wanted, now this same majority is b****ing about the changes. This game isn't failing because it's not Final Fantasy, it's because of the half assed and not-thoroughly-analyzed systems that have been put and continue to be put in this game.
Lowered collision with terrain? Now the game looks weird AND jump won't be implemented.
More features on MW? We're now moving further away from a window/text only display that's stable and user friendly, AND wasting time with a system 90% of customers, current and potential, dislike.
Sped up levels 1-20? Instead of making early game fun to charm new players, they're pushing everyone to mid and high levels. They will not be making low level content anymore, and levels 1-20 will remain a boring, pointless grindfest that nobody likes.
Quests with mediocre story, mediocre item rewards, and NO exp rewards? Does anyone but the most devoted fanboy even care about these?
Every step of the way, the developers have been shooting themselves in the foot with this game, Tanaka and Yoshida alike. It took 3 attempts to get a good targetting system going.
wtf man?
It is very clear that the player community has no damn clue what it is talking about, what it wants, or even what constitutes a good Final Fantasy game. If this game fails, I would be quick to condemn the community's general attitude before the devs.
Sorry for going a bit off track, i still have trouble with the targeting system which do you all prefer with a gampad? This game isn't failing because it's not Final Fantasy, it's because of the half assed and not-thoroughly-analyzed systems that have been put and continue to be put in this game.

very nice thread... love it and agree!
It's a pretty sweet game, assuming you don't mind the point and click nature of the game.
Funny thing is they have a shitty Market Ward system aswell, which is possibly even worse than FFXIV's.
I saw more threads about jump implementation then i did auto-attack; off the top of my head to my recollection 4 auto attack threads i actively read, and 321223232134124 jump threads. however what evs I'm not on the forums 24/7 nor would i ever want to be in order to claim what was more popular, that's what the polls were for.
I'm going to take a cruise through the inter webz to see if i can dig up that old poll, but I'm fairly certain battle system AA was on the top.
Edit:
Here is the second player poll which led to AA because of the high vote on: What do you feel are currently the most significant issues with the battle system? Spamming actions.

And here is a link to a editorial on AA and the second poll results, hopefully this helps.

I'd rather have the Market Wards instead of the AH for FFXIV. Just saying.
And to say "Only took us 9 months to see the ground work of it...." is an inaccurate statement since the game intially wasn't going to have auto-attack at all. They probably didn't even really decide to put auto-attack in the game until later on this year.
Notice how I only commented on this that have actually been implemented, and not things I haven't seen yet. But I'll be back here to rub it in your face if the combat system adjustments are mediocre as well. There's a fatal flaw in your rant, you seem to be under the delusion that SE implemented all this with total disregard to player feedback. Also for the record, the community asks for quests, we got something mediocre. We asked for more exciting things to do, we got a bunch of boring NMs and zero low tier content. We asked for an AH, we got more patchwork on the MW Frankenstein. We asked for jump, we got lowered collision detection with terrain so now we all look like we're playing Big Rigs.
