Good lord. Really? Pay attention and learn how things work.

"Everything except this game". You route to Montreal because the PHYSICAL DATA CENTER IS IN MONTREAL. Youtube isn't in Montreal. Tons of sites that people frequent aren't in Montreal. I don't route to Montreal to hit a rackspace server in California so, guess what? I don't have to jump through a problem ridden node and therefore I have no lag!

I'm not "White-Knighting". I have no problem calling out Square for their failings (hello crappy twitch mechanics with no substance and no open world content. Give me back content like Atmos randomly spawning at aetheryte camp crystals, random Garlean incursions, Mobs spawning in cities, GM's role playing NPC's). This however, isn't something they can control. Understand what's going on so you can point fingers in the right direction.

If a VPN works for people that proves the issue isn't with the Montreal data center (it doesn't affect everyone which also proves it's not at the PCC for Square, their servers).

I've given you all of the information to be able to interpret the data correctly. I'm not going to spoon feed it to people. Learn to deduce and interpret data.

I do this crap daily. I get paid to watch raw data feeds filter into an server ALL DAY LONG. I'm giving information for free to try to help people understand. I don't need to be told I'm wrong when all information provided indicates I'm not. This is why I hate posting in General and stick to Technical Support. At least they are grateful for people trying to help and don't attack them.

what about 90% of the people who are not having lag problems?

It might not be their fault, but it's their problem.

It's the metaphorical equivalent of you buying something from me on e-bay, me mailing it to you and your postman losing it. You don't get what you paid for and I don't even respond. Please tell me you're a satisfied customer.

No? I blame USPS and get in touch with them so they can cover my purchase through their insurance program. If they continue to lose packages, I reroute to a different location and have it sent via courier (VPN) or I go with UPS/FedEx (ISP). It's not the sellers fault that USPS is incompetent.

..and how would you know to contact USPS? For all you know the seller didn't send it in the first place. The issue here is their lack of communication with the community; not the technical issues. The whole point here is that we don't know where we stand; is this something that they are looking into or do we have to switch ISP, pay for a VPN or stop playing?

Even if they turned around and said "This isn't anything to do with us and we have no plans to follow this up" I'd be happy.

Seeing that the issue affects a minority of players, it makes sense for them to collude with Level 3 in private, and report with updates actually worth reporting

Such as actual movement Level 3 acknowledges and acts upon.

Til then, talking about it on a minute-to-minute basis is just bad pr.

Square won't post about something that could potentially damage the relationship with their playerbase, ISP's, third party companies, and investors. You open the door up for recourse and legal ramifications, plus Square is probably under an NDR in their service agreement with Ormuco (it's a standard thing to have).

Would it make you feel better if I told you that before the big flux of issues, everyone was routing through TATA nodes (that are WORSE than Level3)? That shows you that they talked to Ormuco and Ormuco tried to talk to TATA. When TATA didn't comply/fix the issue, Ormuco went to Level3. There was a change. Does it comfort you to have the thought of their network admins calling Ormuco asking about updates to tickets (I'm almost 100% sure this is happening).

Do you want them to post bugzilla logs of the network issues? What about the /var/logs/htaccess logs? Hey, let's get them to post their wireshark dumps so we can pull the source code from it. Do you see how this would cause MORE problems than it would solve? People can't understand how the internet works as it is now. Can you imagine the Pandora's Box if they gave us their data?

EDIT: To your first question. I would know because I have a way of tracking the parcel (USPS.com / Traceroute and wireshark)

When I send in a ticket to technical support with a problem I expect a reply. Maybe I've been spoiled by good customer service?

    Good point.

Followup question: Did you send in a ticket?

    Both in-game, via their web technical support page and here on the forums. I did get an automated response through the in-game interface forwarding me to their FAQ and support section, but nothing since. It's not acceptable and surely you agree? I'm trying to imagine recommending this to someone;

"It's a great game, I absolutely love it. It just doesn't work with some ISP. It's not their fault though, so don't worry about it.."

"What do you mean it doesn't work?"

"Well it's not everyone, but I'm just throwing it out there; if you're unlucky enough to be using an incompatible ISP you won't be able to play it. The lag will be unbearable.."
