You're good at the game? You're an elitist.
You're using a parser to better yourself? Elitist.
You're making suggestions on how someone can improve themselves? E l i t i s t.
You wipe a farm party constantly but you're having fun playing your way. Nah you're fine dude.
This community astounds me at times.
You worked your butt off to experience it first. That's how it works with most things. You put through extra effort or pay more to be one of the first to have it. Then later down the line, it's made much easier or cheaper. But then it's no longer special because anybody can get it.
XIV has already done this once with darklight. Was a huge grind to get in 2.0 and in 2.1 they shower you with philosophy.
I know right it just goes to show you can't appease everyone.
People need to accept this is just the way it is for 90% of MMOs and it's not going to change.
I wonder who's more entitled, people who wants to stay "elite" or the people who loath the "elites" because they think everybody should get all items because, oh well, they're paying for the game.
Remove the lockout for old content wouldn't be a problem, but nerfing.. well... it's not like pug's aren't taking down at least t4. Coil were supposed to be that piece of content in which you would have to actually put some effort, considering that everything else in the game is pure faceroll. You know, something you could sit for some time with friends or a static group in game and have some challenge. Removing lockouts would allow well geared players to actually help this FC mates and share that feeling of accomplishment with them, like a "hey, grats on your looT! you did a very good job!"-ish. Nerfing it will make it in a big "oh, nice, grats on your new shiny.. i guess".
Pft. Achievements, yeah sure... Truth is, you just want to stay an "Elitist" as much as possible. LOL!
Welp, no wonder, this is the only MMO I've seen that's recording a "world first / server first" on everything.
The removal of the lockouts is not the issue. The issue is that they are nerfing the old content so they can use it as a stepping stone for future content, which is seriously messed up. The practice is demonstrably bad as can be seen in World of Warcraft, where the vast majority of its raid content has become obsolete. That is all of WoW's vanilla content as well as three expansions worth of encounters down the toilet.
Anyone who argues that is just how mmos are has not played in the mmo golden age where we had a wide variety of game types and different forms of progression that worked. It all got thrown in the dustbin when every big business decided they needed to copy wow. The fact that SE had a working model of sideways progression that succeeded for years, but decided to copy the broken throw-away-content progression of wow is kinda mind numbing.

I'm so curious, which MMO exactly you're referring to?
Ffxi, Eve online, Maple Story, Star Wars Galaxies, etc...
I'm not saying they're better in their entirety, as mmos have improved on a lot of mechanics, but they did present alternative forms of progression to WoW. Also, I think Ultima Online, the first mmo, didn't do what WoWdid either.

Content is created for users to experience. The more people who can experience the content, the better.
Of course, it takes many man hours to create video game content, and it is the subscriptions that users pay that affords the creators the means to continue producing new content. By widening the number of users who experience previously elite content, the number of people who will continue to be subscribers increases, thus allowing the producers to create more end game content, especially for the likes of you.
In short, You're complaining about the very economic mechanism that allows you to continue to experience high end content as an elite player.
And while you may say "That's not the way it used to be," the reality is that the development costs of high end video games has grown exponentially since the days of EQ, and as such, changes in game structure to support the game financially are inevitable. Ces't la vie.
You do realize you are playing a social game, and status is part of that, right? They aren't elitist. They are a group of people with a passion for tackling hard content, and that requires them to organize into groups and find ways to recognize one another. The gear thus becomes a symbol of status within their group. They don't hate or look down on you.
