The ideas have to be super easy to implement . Not adding content that would take weeks to design.
If there weren't any caps in the game, you'd probably be fully geared on all your classes and complaining about that.

The only ways for SE to prevent players from getting capped quickly is:

    - Keep adding new content faster than their playerbase can burn through it (pretty much unfeasible).
    - Caps on content (which you don't like).
    - Make gear take a very long time to get (which a lot of people don't like anyway).

You have to choose lack of content or content that is not instant rewards everytime. There is no middle ground. You cannot make new content quicker then people finish it.

    So what is worse.

Running out of content and being extremly bored and being forced to pay a sub. Basically paying to not be able to play

    OR

Having endless amount of stuff to do, but having to grind more and being forced to pay. Basically never running out of stuff to do, but it not being all fun and rewards.

Easy solution for the devs... Have some of both. stuff to make casuals happy and stuff to keep the no-lifers happy and paying long term. Win Win... Can even be 80% casual and 20% hardcore. And it will make the hardcores happy.

Oh, I'm totally for having stuff that needs a lot of work to be achieved (currently the only thing close to that is raising gil to buy an L sized house). But I really don't think most players would like that considering that people managed to complain about Miner and Botanist taking too long to level to 50 when the game was released. They'd just whine about it constantly until the developers caved in and made stuff easier to obtain.

Why do you assume that all people that play hardcore have no lives? I play quite a bit, doing endgame consistently and I still go to school fulltime and work fulltime AND still go out with friends and have a good time. I would say that I have a very active and fulfilling life.
