What is considered "good" is extremely debatable and very fallible in this case. As some have how shall we put it, "irredeemable" MMO (I think Gamespot led that charge).

Simply put, you're going to have to amputate if the part is rotten and will only infect and reduce the effectiveness of anything you think of.

Certain "things" have to go, for both short term and/or long term.

Reminds me of what happened to Vanguard from sony. Though their problem was dev teams lack of interest for game and people wanted to play it, but was too buggy and lacked patches with more end game content. So who knows whats going to happen, but so far they been patching every month with FFXIV so its more then what some games companies do when the game dont cut it.

While it's nice that they are attempting to patch issues, this is also part of the problem. If they just let the game die after everyone jumped ship I don't believe it would have caused as much damage to their reputation as this game is going to eventually.

Mainly because there are just so many things wrong with the game, and to say patches are being released in a slow manner is being very generous and polite. As it stands it is well over 6 months of being released, and let's be honest, nothing of substance has been released besides basic bug fixes. Just the fact that 1.18 looks so promising is sad itself when the major addition is auto-attack... Stop and think about that for a moment... Auto-attack... Auto-attack should have been implemented in a week, now you actually have people looking forward to it and praising it almost a year later. You can chalk this up to coding or management all you like, SE however is a company that has more than enough resources to have done this in a timely manner.

That's my point, with the kind of resources SE has at their disposal, that is simply unacceptable. I find that more a slap in the face as a fan and consumer. If you don't want to do something, don't do it. I personally would much rather that than how it seems it is being done half-heartedly. They really needed to pull out all the stops to salvage this game, instead they put a new dev team with better PR in place. I feel bad for Yoshi and the new team. While you may be able to climb Mount Everest with a small backpack and one friend, your chances are grim at best.

I don't play enough to be completely jaded, so I'll probably play after 1.18.

If I had spent 500+ hrs crafting I probably would have rage quit a long long time ago.

FFXI had tons of problems its first year too. The difference is the US and EU never saw that year.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Looks like .18 is on track to make a good showing.

Why are these forums plagued by rampant exaggeration....
Over exaggerating doesn't over-emphasize your point... I personally think we've had too many patches and THAT has hurt game development

    Hi Averix,

I understand you're jaded and upset, but your statement above is simply not true.

From Day 1 release until now, it has *not* simply been "bug fixes." I'm not a rabid FF Fan, but we've gotten more than just some "bug fixes." The streamlining of repeating Crafting Guildleves (and Crafting Synthesis) so you can add all ingredients with 1 button press is pretty big. The fact you can repeat your Guildleve attempts with 1 button press allows you to get through your Local Levequests twice as fast as before if not faster.

They added the 5 High Rank, Open World NMs, then later on 20 New Mid-Level NMs with unique equipment for mid-level players.

A bunch of new equipment and items that weren't available on Day 1 has gone in (are they all great? They serve their purpose, and are helpful).

They added a ton of Side Quests (with silly rewards, but well-written stories and dialogue) that have helped develop the lore around Eorzea and the impending Garlean Empire War.

And some other additions as well.

But is it "Epic, Dynamis-level Game Changers"? No, but it's more than "bug fixes" and they do add some meaningful improvements to the game.

As for 1.18, did you not read Yoshida-san's "Letter from the Producer IX"? Square is adding a LOT more than just auto-attack. If you believe that the "major addition is auto-attack" I think there's a lot more that constitute the important parts of 1.18.

    They're adding in:

    • Rank 30 Raid Dungeon
    • Rank 50 Raid Dungeon
    • New Frontier Quest Hubs (that look sweet!) in all 3 Major Kingdoms.
    • Introducing some initial elements of the New Combat System (including Auto-Attack)
    Link to his Letter here:

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...805-02-2011%29

And in the new video, we see more than just auto attack. It's rebalancing all Weaponskills and Combat Actions in the game for all classes for a new Combat System driven by Timers and/or TP/MP only. New Weaponskill Animations (which look awesome) and other adjustments (which Yoshida-san says we'll get more detail on in his next letter).

If that patch doesn't deliver? Sure, I think many people would quit out of frustration, but so far 1.18 is looking to deliver MUCH more than it just being the "major addition is auto-attack" from your assertion.

    Thanks.

I appreciate your response, and while you assume I am jaded and upset, you only have one right. And for future reference, when you quote someone, please read it first. You keep repeating "just auto attack" and I have never said that. My point was "the major addition is auto-attack". If you would like to debate whether or not it's the major addition that's fine, but please try not to misquote me repeatedly.

Sorry, sure, if you believe 1.18's "major addition is auto-attack," that's your opinion. And I respect that. (I've updated my OP with your direct quote.)

I think for myself and many others, the addition of a R30 and R50 Raid Dungeon, tied to the Grand Companies' Rank System, and New Frontier Quest Hubs and other changes to the New Combat System constitute a big part of 1.18. I think those are the real "major additions" to 1.18.
