Is 1.18 the final straw?

It could have been a typo for all we know. Maybe it was supposed to be "Class" and not "Job". It certainly doesn't make any sense to implement the gear before the actual system comes out.

Still, there is no actual mention of Jobs being implemented within the summer. That's not to say that the possibility isn't there. I just wouldn't put too much faith into it and end up disappointed when it doesn't happen.

If not we move on as life make us, so I keep my hope high on this letter.. best news I had since Launch I'm not going to set my bar low on this one this is a different matter. Those other patches was groundwork to what they are doing now so.

Wow some people can't ram it through their head. Read what the letter said again though, it said everything on that list will be finished by summer's end, but then read the specifics and anything regarding job system and you wont see anything that on the list that says "implement job system". Yea...learn to read and you wont be so disappointed in the end.

It says it will be finished by summer's end, it also says job system mechanics. Job system mechanics+finish=Finished Job system mechanics. If they don't put jobs in 1.18 I'm putting the nail in the coffin here. Seriously, this game blows but I need one huge ass smack to the face so I can just say, "F this." I really want that to happen. At this point, I don't even want this game to be good.

Might as well leave now. The chance of the Job system being in 1.18 is about 0.0000002%. I don't normally leave comments like these, but you've clearly made up your mind already. So why waste any more time?

As far as things are concerned, the only thing that's wrong at the moment is the speed they are updating the game. It's been what... 3-4 months since the last REAL big update? That's far too long to wait for a new update. I understand that there has been natural disasters in Japan that have been affecting their work, but that was already ages ago and even in the time after that they should have been able to come up with something more than a measly targeting update (1.17b).

If there is only a handful of people working on the game, it's almost sure that the game will plummet even further than it is now and this is because people (yes, even myself) are getting tired of waiting new updates when the game really does suck at the moment and is boring to play, mostly because of repeatative actions such as leves and crafting. There's no sure way to resolve this whole issue, but as long as there's only 10-20 people in the dev / coding team, this isn't moving as fast as it should.

What usually happens with a new coming MMO is that, they hire a lot of people to speed up the launch of the game. SE failed big time with this as the game wasn't nearly as ready as it should have been. So, I think SE should employ some staff (at least temporarily) to fix the game's status before people abandon the ship. In the long run, it will cost them less money financially than if they keep processing the game at the same speed they are going at it now.

With the 1.18 SE could regain some credibility and make people come back to Eorzea, but if they will fail... I don't want to think about it.

I gotta say I have been having the SAME exact feeling as the OP. Was doing nothing but log on craft and log off and it was getting to the point where I just thought Why?

As for is 1.18 the Final Straw? I imagine it would be for a large amount of people. In fact a good portion of the linkshell I'm in have left the game until 1.18 comes out and if it doesn't have what they want when it comes out there is a decent chance they won't stay if they come back.(What used to be a very active shell is now nearly empty because of how many people have stopped playing until 1.18).

For me personally I have told myself I will give the game to the end of the year(Or until paying starts whichever happens first) to convince me it will get on track. The sad part is that when FFXI came out and was a disaster in Japan SE had already gotten it close to perfect by this point in time. I know this isn't a good comparison as the tech from back then is nothing like it is now but it's still very disheartening to see how slowly the game is improving despite the effort of the dev team. I honestly thought and still do to a extent think the better plan for SE would have been to take FFXIV down completely and work on it and then have a relaunch somewhere down the line. It's not like they are losing money doing this as the game is already free to play.

Considering how much FFXI has improved over the years I have hope that FFXIV will get much much better if it survives long enough to do so. The question is how long does it need and how long will SE allow it to get back on it's feet before they label it a lost cause.
