Lmao so awesome, some day I will have a K-Club... yeah I've been saying that forever >.<
Second and third this.
I loved FFXI. I HATED playonline and the fact that the control layout was one of the most confusing of any MMO I have played on the PC. My girlfriend also did not like it, which is why I stopped (we're not together any more). But there was no reason you couldn't have taken the gameplay, fixed the control scheme for a more modern audience, and done away with playonline (which you already have done.)
Please. Alternatively, just create XI-2.

If feel that the game doesn't have depth, and it has nothing to do with XI. It is solely based on playing this game and it has no depth to me.
You change through gear sets so frequently- an iconic AF set is literally just handed to you and immediately upgraded and thrown in an armoire.
Aside from the relic quests and the main storyline quests, most quests are just one step fetch quests with little or no juicy story elements. Once you hit 50, you are given this cathartic story ending that is essentially like beating a game and heralds the end of interesting content- and then you run into a wall of repetitive dungeon grinding for tomes.
The fun raid stuff that most people associate with end game has lockouts and is so limited in scope that it constitutes an hour or two playtime a week.
There are not any long term goals for a character to achieve, except leveling or chasing gear behind lockouts/caps.
It's incredibly linear, the entire game. Characters are incredibly generic because of the confined upgrade path. There are very few areas to explore at end game (repeat the same dungeons).. and there is little to non-existent customization in characters/classes. Even the few dungeons you repeat are static and not dynamic.
Aside from the gravitas the FF brand brings to this game, there is zero innovation here.
Rare items is what makes mmos fun. It gives players something to strive towards. Now it's I don't even have to be good I can just buy Titan runs and everyone prances around every where wearing the exact same thing.
Completely agree! There were items in FFXI that I could just accept the fact that I was never going to have, and just enjoy the gear I had. But in this game, gear is so easy to get, you are expected to have the best. It's a shame really. It was ok not to have the best gear in 11, people for the most part didn't judge, unless you were way under geared. Much more variety of geared players in 11, everybody didn't look the same.
I capped a bunch of 1-handed weapon skills in less than a day pairing it with a K-club on my Nin. With fast weapons the animation couldn't keep up with the number of hits. Granted, the joy of getting one with my longtime in-game friend evaporated when she decided to keep it, server transfer, and sell her account. There's a flip side to every coin.
Yeah these days everyone needs to be super over geared to run fail safe content. Ilvl90, must know fight, 3 forms of id, must have mumble, 3 derps and you're kicked. It's funny the more casual you make it, the more the players try to separate themselves. This game is way way way more unfriendly to new players and players with lesser skills than ffxi ever was. In FFXI if I remember correctly artifact armor was still viable end game and player skill mattered more than gear.Completely agree! Yes, the easier and more simple the game, the more people try to distinguish themselves as "elite"... because in a harder or more complex game, most of those people wouldn't suffer the delusion that they are anything near "elite". When everyone is special, no one is... and personally, I have no problem accepting being a casual and not having the highest end stuff. However, when anyone can get anything, mediocre players start trying to be jerks and e-peening runs rampant.Yeah these days everyone needs to be super over geared to run fail safe content. Players start focusing on gear, because skill is something that is not really required. Since anyone can get gear, average players get something and then use that to justify their "superiority" over any players that have not gotten that item or items.
In older games I have played, the elite players were usually some of the nicest and most helpful players around. They didn't need to try to prove anything, it was obvious and they used their knowledge and skills to help other players.

So true, I had this Naruto name tank in duty finder Ultima call me out for "not knowing how to dance" I was white mage and he kept eating aoes and the group didn't know how to run bombs. So it was like me and another marked guy eating bombs by ourselves and dying to it. The party was taking way too much unnecessary damage as well and yet it was because I "didn't know how to dance". Way too many stories like these in this game of players being what I call "Fake Elitists"
On a side note
There was another DF Ultima fight humbled me. I was playing with new players that weren't doing so well and I called them out on what they were doing wrong. They acknowledge it and was willing to take my advice and thanked me for calling out the phases. If they were to of gotten a fake elitist rather than me, they would of been berated for being bad. It sort of made me wish that I would of been able to carry them through the fight but it's not possible through df and in general harder to do in this game compared to FFXI.
