Yes, companies do stuff like that all the time. "Hey! Don't look that their shiny thing! Look at this shiny thing instead!"
No need to start name calling. It is highly inappropriate and doesn't make what you said more correct.
nor does it make it .. hmm what was the words ..the most obvious and plausible answer possible.. so i stand by my name calling!!!
And you have proof that the free weekend was because of TESO? I must have missed it when they posted it on the lodestone. I'll go and see if i can find it..... Hmmm nope. Although i can't speak for them running a free to play weekend to stop people from beta playing TESO, i can say that i did notice less people on lately. It was pretty slow for a free to play weekend.![]()
Look, wether it's a problem in too many hops, too big distance, server quality or placement, ISPs throttling, or other...
There has to be a reason why this is such a problem on this game and not everywhere else.
By "such a problem" I mean that this topic has been going on ever since release. There is always, at some point, an active thread or another dealing with this issue on the forums. Ingame, people have been complaining since the game started.
I know not everybody is affected, regardless of distance aparently; I know it probably happened to some people on other games too.
But I've never seen this specific issue being brought up by so many players on any other online game I've played in the past 10 years. Nor have I seen hundreds of pages on forum threads ranting on such a problem anywhere else. Maybe you know some other game where it happened, I haven't played them all, but it's rare enough to make me wonder why it's happening here.
There has to be something specific to FFXIV for such a big issue (as in: affecting so many people) happening here, don't you think?
EDIT: I thank you and others who have tried to be constructive.
My point is not that it is or isn't helpfull.
It's just that this problem is more than a few specific people, it's a global issue. And the reason why I call SE on it, is because of what I said just above.
While I do apreciate people's advice and possible individual solutions, I would very much like for SE to do something about it (even if it's just aknowledgement and investigation). As I said, there has to be a reason why this is happening so much on this specific game.

By far one of the best posts in this thread so far. Any white knight mind posting his opinion?I know not everybody is affected, regardless of distance aparently; I know it probably happened to some people on other games too.

That's very true. Based on the physical location of the servers there are going to be certain network junctions that are used to reach it for a large amount of users. Many tracerts performed so far have pointed out a few specific hops that seem to have the problem more than others. The trick now is contacting who owns those hops, and then for them to actually care. This is the point where Square can contact them to try and help. However, as far as we know they already have. It could very well be the company doesn't care or the hardware needs replaced and that could be quite expensive. That's when it all gets hazy to us since all we can do is run a tracert and point a finger.
