Why not provoke and toss a few shields, if it's anything but regen or whispering dawn then you will have control. I'm kinda shocked to see 2 pages of replies and the only real answer given was use bloodbath.

'Use Bloodbath' is bad advice as the healing it generates doesn't actually cause agro.

Mobs love fairies! When that happens to me I have to make Eos obey the next attempt because they will bust out an aoe buff or regen as soon as the tank pulls sometimes. I would think you still should be able to get it back though, even if you have to provoke.

Shield lob (running to garuda) -> spirits within (when you reach her) -> un-combo'd halone all in quick succession. You will not lose aggro unless there is a regen up on pull or fairy was not on steady and popped a buff on pull.

When things go wrong this does nothing.

I've had some triggerhappy players on Ultima HM recently.
I went in with Fight or Flight, Shield Lob, Fast Blade, Spirits Within, Savage Blade, Circle of Scorn, and before I could use Rage of Halone Ultima turned around and went for one of the healers.
As soon as it turned I used Provoke, followed by a few Shield Lobs which would make Ultima turn to me for maybe 1 second before hunting healers again. (yes, Shield Oath is always up ^^)
Only after waiting for another Provoke+Shield Lob, I was able to grab solid hate.

What do we learn from that?
Healers shouldn't panic and in case of drawing aggro, they should move to the tank and not run away from him. ^^

I am going to go with the SCH was forgetting to put his fairy on Obey and it was blowing a few CDs as soon as you agroed Garuda.

This all day long! Healer (or DPS for that matter) steals hate instantly voids bladder and runs like a Pope in a brothel. The best way for a tank to get hate off you is to stack on or near him/her then run away AFTER s/he gets hate back

None of the self heals generate aggro. You can test it out yourself by having a buddy poke an enemy and then using Second Wind or Inner Beast: the first won't have you generate any enmity at all and the second won't generate any more enmity than you'd get out of the damage normally.

If the Sch consistently used Succor as you pulled they might be able to out-threat you. More likely as soon as you took damage their fairy popped it's Regen and the HoT on ppl who weren't hurt stole hate from you though. This can cause problems during all the add phases as well (or Whm's Medica II). if a Sch is pulling hate (not the fairy) it is probably a combo of healing & DoTs and will only happen just as she disappears before shriek and the Satin plume

I never lose aggro to SCH, EOS on the other hand ........ T_T
