This is why we can't get the game most of us really want, this simple, close minded mentality. Vanilla everything. No specialization. Thanks for nothing.

I agree entirely. So some areas will be a little harder for some classes, and some areas will be a little easier.

Fantastic. If there's anything MMOs need more of it's variety.

Basing difficulty on whether or not the mobs are immune/resistant to your damage is retarded. Also, thats not variety, its hitting a brick wall on your favorite class because the game mechanics (in your desired world) are designed in such a way to heavily screw you over.

    Specialize in what exactly?
"Sorry mate you cant come in on SMN or BLM because these mobs are immune to magic damage. Oh and a lot of mobs are highly resistant to piercing, so we're just going to run 4 Monks. Oh, no Monk? well go away then."

Our Jobs already specialize in a role when in a Full Party, you're blind if you can't see that.

OH NO, the ice sprite takes a whole other button press for me to kill!

    You'll live.

Read: Enrage strategy for Turn 2. Notice how it can be done any other way, yet this is now the common and pretty much 99% way to do it now?
Just because they can't play their jobs or learn a faster way.
My static still does it the normal way and takes less time than that easy mode.

If an Ice Sprite was immune to Blizzard, You're left with Thunder and Fire. So your rotation goes from a steady up/down cycle to spamming Fire and using Transpose while twiddling your thumbs for MP.
Immune/Resistant to physical damage. I go from hitting mobs for full damage, to barely doing anything at all. Sorry guys, NONE of my skills work on this guy, so uh, /Rally! Why am i even participating again?
    Yeah thats .... Real deep.

Actually, back when we had elemental interactions, there wasn't a huge difference in damage between the three elements. Thunder line was the most mp efficient, Fire line was for AOEs and Ice was for lowering hate.

It's not like there's any reason to be sure they won't rejig all our jobs' abilities all over again. They've already done it three times.

It would be kind of neat, I think, if elemental affinities were at least applied to those low level sprites we see in the open world.

As far as piercing/magic/bashing/holy weakness in a mob, wouldn't it make sense to have a mix of these kinds of mobs in a dungeon fight? That way you WOULD want to take every class with you. I wouldn't want complete resistance to a type of damage in 4 man dungeons, but maybe in 8 man?

But as far as FF-ness of mobs... Morbol's Bad Breath attack... makes me ;_; no matter the FF game. XD
