PVP design and implementation has brought much shame to FFXIV

I will lead off by saying I am still spending most of my free time playing PVP, but I can't help but be disappointed at the same time. I have noticed the people I grouped with on my server to do pvp not logging in anymore or just sticking to doing PVE. I know there are fixes in coming for a lot of what is wrong but at the same time how were bugs like jump exploit not found before release and fixed. Are people really going to come back after getting a taste of this first poor product.

Not sure why there is not a test server like commonly found in most MMO's. I want the game to succeed and PVP to be the best product possible, but if the Dev's don't allow us to test things before release to mainstream it seems they will always have to react to issues after release while the player base suffers for weeks/months instead of being proactive and having them fixed before release to live servers.

I think people will come back, after all a lot of people came back with the release of 2.1. I do agree that they should have a test serve though, would help to avoid a ton of these issues that have arisen rather quickly.

Go figure...people focusing on PvE in a PvE oriented game.

A very small percentage of the players (around 10%) responded to a poll before the redesign of the game happened saying they really wanted PvP. Are you surprised that there aren't many people participating?

There are other games whose main focus is PvP. If that's what you're after in a game you'd probably be better served checking one of those out. FF games will be about their story and PvE encounters first and foremost.

This sounds like a HORRIBLE excuse to release a poor product. So 10% of our consumer base is interested so let's give them a &%$#ed product?

    Smh at that reasoning.

And I disagree. There is no reason at all pvp couldn't be spectacular in this game. Best of all time? No, but it has a lot of potential.

I think it was a great rollout for PVP. I honestly have very few complaints. When I random que I win probably 30-50% of my matches. When I que with friends I win 75-99%. Its pretty much what I would expect from PVP in just about any MMORPG (unless its 1v1 then i'm going to win 100% of course or the game is obviously broken). There are a few unbalanced aspects but that happens no matter what game it is right when pvp is launched. My only real complaint is the latency and skipping that happens occasionally see but its really not all that bad and i'm sure it will improve over time.

Shame to FFXIV is a little extreme and overdramatic lol

I spend most of my time PvPing and enjoying it, but I still think it's a joke of a PvP system. 4 months of waiting and what do we get? One 4v4 area, non competitive (no ladder or rating system) and ugly gear that is all made from models that already exist. At least they added all the new skills which I think are pretty cool. I will continue playing it and gearing up in hopes that 2.2 will bring some battleground style PvP zones along with nice looking gear!

This is true of XI's PVP model. People played Ballista hard. Years later, it died and fizzled out dramatically because XI's community was more concerned about PvE content because there were no gear incentives to play Ballista or Brenner for that matter. (Very unlikely anyone even bothers with this anymore to dthis day on XI. )

But you guys act like the dev team isn't going to fix and adjust things for PvP. They've already proven to do quite alot in a small amount of time. If you don't like it, don't bother with it until it's fixed. If it's still not to your liking, then you can figure out what you're going to do from then moving forward because assuredly so, SE has obtained some method of payment from you at this point.

They will adjust things, sure. But it seems to me they made it clear pvp in this game was designed to be a free for all. I mean, if you have lvl 30's in ilvl 90 pvp gear that can fight any random person, what adjusting do you think there is to be done? Balance was never a priority.

They actually expected around 15% participation and it seems like they've gotten at least that much.

The current PvP is not bringing "shame" to the game. Yes, it has some easily noticed issues, but it's still fun to play on the whole. I have a couple of linkshells for PvP and I can form a party with people from them at any time. It's still very much alive and well.
