SE have just sold 6 of their franchises to other companies. Some of these were franchises they have held onto for close to 20 years, the most prominent of which being the Kingdom Hearts one. They have also just announced fiscal losses for consecutive years in all bases across the world, and have also been on the edge of the playstation hacking stuff AND are still recovering from the massive loss following the build and abandonment of their CG Studios, for their new line of movies, which went down the pan.
Come on man, fanboys aside, you can't honestly say that SE is as strong as it has always been? It is in a terrible state right now, and is constantly coming up with one bad decision after another.
If you love it so much though, go apply to be a community rep.
what 6 franchises
looks like they still own kingdom hearts, maybe the sold the european distribution rights to someone. carmageddon says they sold it back to the original owners, and they basically got the rights by buying some other company. Sounds like just business deals.
The kingdom hearts franchise wasn't sold off, no idea where you're getting this from. Carmageddon was a bare-bones 'franchise' anyway, and it's long gone. Would love to see anything -at all- on these 4 japan-only franchises they're selling off.
SE isn't dying, and it's utterly ridiculous to think they are. Even the remakes they pump out (i believe there's a dragon quest one coming soon) sell like crazy. They've got FF Type-0 coming out in a few months in japan, and XIII-2 shortly following. Then there's lara croft and deux ex coming soon too.
Stop making unfounded assumptions based on little to no speculative evidence. Yes, they took a hit with FFXIV and it's a slump for them right now, but to suggest that could bring down a multi-national company that I'm sure a LOT of people would love to work for is pretty stupid.
I agree it might not be as bad as it sounds, but when you see a company like SE fall from grace over years, and then suffer staff losses, fiscal losses, and start selling their franchises, one can only wonder what kind of a state the company was in, not to mention they fired an entire development team responsible for production on FFXIV.
Yup they totally fired them...every last one of them, good to know people have there facts straight around here. One would never be able to post such lies like.
The developement team was not fired, key members were switched to different departmens and a few people got bumped down a notch on the development ladder. Hell even the Original head of the project is STILL there working on it and employed at SE.
People could never say such lies...Blasphomy.
They did not fire the whole development team, they all stepped down (resigned) from the project and were placed in different departments on different assignments. It is possible that some people got fired i do not know for certain, but i do know Hiromichi Tanaka is still working for Square Enix, and he had a hand picked crew the followed him out the door on this project.I agree it might not be as bad as it sounds, but when you see a company like SE fall from grace over years, and then suffer staff losses, fiscal losses, and start selling their franchises, one can only wonder what kind of a state the company was in, not to mention they fired an entire development team responsible for production on FFXIV.
