    FFXIV: Different and Unique

I really need to vent about some of the posts I have read in these forums about changes people want made. Please bear with me as I might rant a little.

I think some people don't understand that FFXIV is not a cookie-cutter mmo. It is a different kind of game, plain and simple. Many of us like that it is different from the norm. If they completely change the game to the run-of-the-mill mmo, I don't think it can compete nearly as well as it can if advertised for what it is.

I've also read replies with people coming to the defense of FFXIV, and I like to see that. And of course constructive suggestions on improvements and innovations to the current system are welcome. I'm just talking about people who log on expecting to play a LoTRO, WOW, AoC, etc, not realizing what they are playing, and then logging onto the forums and making random assertions based on the fact that they are unaware of exactly the type of game FFXIV is.

I'm sure I just pissed off a lot of people, but FFXIV has a lot of charm, and although I am completely anticipating subsequent patches, I also don't want them to change what makes the game unique. FFXIV has a lot of growing to do, but I'd like to see it evolve and grow while retaining it's uniqueness: the things that make it's current fanbase loyal.

FFXIV has an opportunity to be something completely unlike anything else out there. It looks like it can eventually become a game that has a lot of elements of a sandbox mmo, but just enough of the theme park as well.

I won't play any other mmo atm because of the potential I see in this game.

Potential is why I am still here. Enjoyment is how I got here. I haven't had too many points that I haven't enjoyed so far in this game, but it is cool to hate on something universally so alot of people just toss turds at it, because they are bored.

I have reached a point over the last few days though where I am starting to see the lack of content etc, and that other than grinding, there isn't much else to do.

The game has massive potential too, and getting passed the chicken lickens out there, hopefully we will see it grow.

It has a lot of potential, but people want them to add crap from other MMORPGs since those ideas and concepts have already been designed, and that the people suggesting them severely lack imagination.

As long as it's free I won't complain.

All the people that are left like it, the other half a million who left, did not, so SE lost a lot by being too unique and having nothing!

And them copy/pasting another game success would of had them around 1 mill subs for about 9 months then a massive drop out to where they are now anyways.

While what they tried did not work, copying other mmos has been proven time and time again that it does not work either.

Better them try something that could work, then something that has never worked before.

Would be true if they had good ideas and implementation to begin with. Also would've helped if they didn't release so much false information. Oh Square Enix.

i think its rather having nothing. FFXIV isnt unique, sadly it isnt. Its a copy of ffxi lacking 80% of what ffxi had without replacing it by other unique features. There is just nothing. IT HAS great potential but looking at the patches so far it might just turn easier every patch and get like all other mmos.

The only reason why im still checking on patches is... a tiny bit of hope, that it will not be changed into an average mmo, like there are many atm. I hope it works on strengthening the niche it was in instead of trying to appeal to the mass market. Not only it will become uninteresting for the ff players, but it won't be able to compete with all the other more polished mmos out there, which have tons more content. Even the best of the current wow copies have the problem with the huge competition... if ffxiv wants to fail, it goes the wow-copy way, the fail will be a 100% guarantee.
If it progresses and stays in the niche it is, it has a chance and might even turn out to be great in the future.
