Man I agree with this guy, but i will also say that Wow is the typical MMORPG prototype that ppl keep seeming to want to clone, there are tons that have the same mechanics as wow, same look feel everything, BUT of all the MMORPG's i've played and trust me i have played tons f2p and p2p, there hasnt been one simular to FFXI classes, gameplay, battle, strategy, community, none not one simular at all.I love how everyone rides on the phrase, "this game has potential"...in reality every game has potential, the only reason any of us stick around is because we're either (1) hardcore FF fans, (2) ex-FFXI fans, or (3) retarded :P jk. But seriously every game has potential, imo FFXIV is no different and I see this potential dwindling with each passing patch - I think this game is now trying to appease to the majority so they can try and drag in as many casual players as possible, especially on the PS3, so imo any potential this had is seeping out slowly and its faster and faster turning into your typical run of the mill MMO.
Tell me one game, just one that is even close to being simular to XI.
So when I hear that they think that the new team may be trying to please the masses and make this game overly casual and appeal to the masses like so many other mmorpg's, you really cant add the flag ship SE mmo to that list not at all, because final fantasy XI was original and innovative.
XI was nothing at all like wow, therefor by its own standard it was inovative and original. I wont say I am not biased but I think anyone that has played a number of MMORPG'S as I have can easily tell you this FACT.
SE hit the jackpot with XI with SOOOO many players racking in cash for sooooo long, with a formula that was hated by most wow fans because it was sooo different from that and every other "typical MMORPG" when the standards are being seen as anything that was in wow like it was the 1st mmorpg which it wasnt. So why in the hell would they Decide to go away from what was a successful formula to be another copy of wow?
As bad as this game is, from head to toe aweful IMO I rather see it keep the 10-15 ppl that I see in these forums attacking anyone that wants to see it change, win or see it get shut down rather then see it be another wow clone.
If they wanna clone something or lets say build on the ideas of a successful MMORPG why not take some of what they have in house which is XI, that was SE's inovative revolutionary mmorpg. Not really saying carbon copy, but build on, make tweaks and advancements to an original ideal of what is already theirs.
Lets face it with gaming today nothing is REALLY new just a twist to a already used idea system ect.
SSSOOO why completely ignor every aspect of what made XI great and instead try to drop in crap from WoW?
You think when Blizzard makes its next MMORPG after WoW its gonna say "Ok WoW was nice for us, made us all rich, little kids everywhere loved it, so lets forget every thing that we did and do something completely different it probably wont work but screw it were rich we can waste a few bucks."
HELL NO! Its gonna be "WoW-2" with better cartoon visuals, and higher pogo stick jumping, and like the many many MANY pokeman(black,White,Teal,Pancake) all the little kids will love the new WoW as well, watch what i tell you now...
Did i read a while back that the new producer is a wow fan and former wow player?
I hope i am imagining that.
Because If he is and that means he's like logging off of wow and going to work man we are screwed! =P

same thing for me.I don't want them to make FFXIV a typical MMO, but that's what they are doing atm. Instead of fixing flaws in those unique features, they remove them completely and replace them with cookiecutter ones - the more they do it, the more of a cookiecutter FFXIV becomes and the less chances they have to see me stay.
WTF Square-Enix!!, thought you guys were pioneers of RPG stuff and a MMO is about as RPG as you can get.

NONE!Tell me one game just one that is even close to being simular to XI.
only FFXI is like FFXI. square should be proud about that, but looks like they just want maximum sub base and it fail on them, and 10 years later FFXI is still going.
Isn't it tradition for every final fantasy game to have a complete unique experience from one another? Like different battle systems/stories/environment etc? I believe that was what FFXIV was trying to accomplish and failed.
Actually no..it's not. FF games actually are similar to another in many ways, just not a direct expansion. I.E: engine reuse
FF11 and FF12 are the greatest near brothers, as FF1-FF4 barely changed back in those days and quite similar FF 6 and FF9, FF7-FF8, etc. The projects end up like that due to who gets put in charge and what seems popular, etc.
Even FF spirit within...you can see a lot of resembles to FF8 of due to their staff.
Messing with success is never something to take lightly. Being forced to mess with success can be disastrous as we see in hindsight.

I'm not asking for a direct exact copy, no XI fan is asking for that trust me.
Take the basics of whats there that is great and has been loved for 10 years and improve on it add a little slap ya momma seasoning, some hot sauce, a squeez of lemon, mix in some real final fantasy classes, toss that bad boy in the oven and bam FFXIV its whats for dinner!
I for one would love it!
Haha yea I would love that too! Considering how majority players of this game are FFXI fans, many features should transfer over.I'm not asking for a direct exact copy, no XI fan is asking for that trust me.

Agreed, Every FF I ever played II-XII with the one exception of XII All had the same basic principle of combat. A menu driven combat/casting system. Although some people I'm sure loved XII, I thought the gambit system completely destroyed that game and so many others agree to this. So what does that tell us? Don't F****** deviate from what works. The main differences throughout the series are mini-games, character development, environment, graphics and story. That's where they should have focused their efforts. There were, IMHO, absolutely no flaws in the combat and interactive UI mechanics of XI. Small tweaks, great! Hotbar omfg NO!Actually no..it's not. Most fans of the series love it for the epic story. Even XI had incomparable and epic story lines. If SE does not develop this within the next year they will certainly lose the Sub of this 7 year XI vet...
