    You were never supposed to be able to have 2 instances running on the same computer at the same time. If you were able to do that, it was a bug. As far as I was aware, you either had to log in and out on the same PC/PS3 or have two PCs or PS3s.

    (You can mess with processes to fool the new instance into thinking the game isn't already running, but that would be a TOS violation).

    You could do it that way, technically. There is no way for the game to know it's running on a VM.

    ffxiv said themselves that you are allowed to run 2 clients at once but not 3. If you run it in windowed mode u could tab between the 2.
    To my recollection the ToS doesn't say anything about how many accounts you are allowed to play with.

    Says the game client? Under normal circumstances if you try to run a second instance it tells you you the game is already running. Least, that's what it did for me.

    -edit- I ran into the erro didn't realize it was just the launcher.
