Fact is, when asked that question LAND hadn't been mentioned so clearly the questioner was expecting ONLY to have to pay for a HOUSE .. thus by his reply Yoshi set the expectation that this would be a rough idea of the TOTAL cost to acquire a house and be able to enter it.

House and land are two different things. He ONLY discussed about the house itself, nothing about plots until the last minute.

Now, I will agree with you that he should have stated both ahead of time, Not just state "House will be obtainable with 4-5 people from leveling 1-50". He didn't misled because he didn't actually state anything at all about Plots.
