I dont think FFXI is one of the longest running MMOs ever. It's been going for a while, but some other games (the realm online which launched in 1996) have been going much longer.

I said "FFXI is one of the longest running subscription based MMO's in existence" How many MMO's out there have held onto the monthly fee subscription plan for more than 11 years? FFXI is by far one of the longest.
