Housing is not a fiasco, at least I don't feel it is.
My issue with the patch is how classes and skills were adjusted. They were poorly thought out and those are the things that affect the longevity and fun of a game.

keep beating on the dead horse
I dont think FFXI is one of the longest running MMOs ever. It's been going for a while, but some other games (the realm online which launched in 1996) have been going much longer. Regarding profitability, FFXI is the most profitable Final Fantasy game to date, per former CEO Yoichi Wada:
"...Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada heralded Final Fantasy XI as the most profitable of all past Final Fantasy games..."

I said "FFXI is one of the longest running subscription based MMO's in existence" How many MMO's out there have held onto the monthly fee subscription plan for more than 11 years? FFXI is by far one of the longest.
MMO trend has changed in recent years.
wow came in 2001 or 2004 w year where adsl-Connection had its time, and of course there were not so many mmorpg out there, and too many people were mmorpg games something completly new! The trend can never change its mind now, especially not the first feeling you play an MMO for it is very rare ..
Today we have a lot of mmo games, it is too common today, Trend change just like music, today listening to electro and tomorrow you listening to classical because you suddenly got bored of electro music.
The Realm Online was originally released in 1996. It is currently still running with a $6.99 monthly subscription fee, albeit with a small population. FFXI has been running for a while, but not the longest. Probably not top 5. EQ was released in 1999 and is still running with subscriptions (although it does have a F2P option, although it's severely restricted.).
Yeah, it's been running for a while, but a number of subscription games have been running longer. That's all.

Well, it's true that older MMO's have stacked up content, but the MMO's that come out now should have learned from these changes and include them from the start. Not the amount of content ofc, but other things that would interest players from the start.
You can't get away with the same excuses that developers did 10+ years ago....
All that being said, we should stick with the MMO's we like anyways.... Cause there have been some MMO's over the years (like AoC), which could have been at the top right now, if players had just stayed. It's still the developers faults, but if we give our support, they will eventually become the games we wanted in the first place.
The winner is going to be the first MMO since Wow, that manages to get everything right at launch.
You're implying WoW did everything right at launch? I guess the major lag, bugged starter area quests, way too few mobs for the amount of players, server outages, daily maintenance, limited endgame, imbalanced classes etc. is part of a successful launch then.. In which case, ARR had a perfect launch, as did pretty much every other MMO![]()
