[dev1075] Limit Breaks or Overdrive Mode

I know a lot of people wanted 2 hr abilities, but I was just curious how people felt towards Limit Breaks/Overdrive Modes. If you are unfamiliar with the terms I will explain them. This is a separate bar that charges based on the actions of each individual class. In the earlier games this would only trigger with low health, but that wouldn't be fair to implement it as such. The newer games have Overdrive Mode that charges based on a class specific factor. Healers for example would build the meter by heals, tanks by damage taken, dd's by damage dealt.

Now when the meter is full it gives you access to a special ability. This ability depletes the bar and before reusing the skill the bar must be rebuilt. There are also levels of this bar, but I'm not sure that I would like to go to in-depth on that yet. I would prefer to hear from the community and hear some suggestions, comments, and ideas. This would contribute to the nostalgia of the past ff games as well as allow us to feel as though this game has more Final Fantasy elements.

Here are clips of some of the older ones:

A+ man. I love that idea!

I am all for seeing old school FF elements revived and implemented into XIV.

The Limit Breaks and Overdrives were a very well designed system that PULLED you into the game

I think these elements will foster a deeper battle experience!

    GLA -
    Limit Gain: taken damage.
Ability: Stalwart Hero - You take less damage for a short time, and gain TP faster from hits taken for a short time.
    MRD -
    Limit Gain: dealing melee damage.
Ability: Blood Rage - Your attacks deal more damage for a short time, and you regain a small amount of HP with each
    melee attack you hit with.
    PGL -
    Limit Gain: dealing melee damage.
Ability: Raging Fists - When you hit with melee attacks, you gain a small amount of stamina.
    LNC -
    Limit Gain: taking melee damage.
Ability: Dragon Soul - Your melee attacks gain a slight stun effect, draining enemy stamina slightly when you hit.
    ARC -
    Limit Gain: dealing ranged damage.
Ability: Assassinate - For a short time, your attacks have increased accuracy and critical hit chance.
    CON -
Limit Gain: casting spells that heal hp or do damage.
Ability: Raving Elements - For a short time, your spells have doubled effect range.
    THM -
Limit Gain: casting spells that give status effects to enemies or allies.
Ability: Rememberance - Your enhancing and enfeebling spells have longer effect durations for a short time.

Have fun butchering this stuff. But be creative not destructive please.

Isn't that what TP is for?

    Kor Poni-

These ideas are nice and I appreciate your ideas. You're limit gains are exactly what I was thinking. The abilities could be a little more potent as the overdrive bar doesn't charge very fast. Definitely a step in the right direction though. Thank you.

    Rentahamster-

While the tp bar is nice, having it at full doesn't really mean much. It means that you get to do yet another weaponskill that does very little damage. The Overdrive bar on the other hand grows far more slowly and should have drastically more potent effects.

I'm personally not liking the repetitiveness in the melee classes myself. Maybe damage taken for gla and lnc, melee damage dealt for mrd, attacks that hit for arc, and attacks evaded for pgl? I gave the damage taken to two classes so they'd be leaned toward tanking classes.

TP moves are not the same as Overdrive and Limit Breaks. Do you know what those two systems are Rentahamster?

TP moves are like abilities with a cost. I think what the OP is looking for is an alternate system that's more of a reward for meeting requirements like limit breaks in FFVII and FFIX (9 not 11) and a few others where you get a single special move that really changes the pace of the battle and makes your class shine like 2 hours in FFXI does, but in a different way. Not like weapon skills in FFXI, where you can use energy for a single insignificant special attack, then repeat.

TP - a suplementary battle system that involves dealing and taking damage in order to build up a resource meter that is separate from MP in order to execute highly damaging attacks as well as special moves and skills.

Overdrive/Limit Breaks - a supplementary battle system that involves dealing and taking damage in order to build up a resource meter that is separate from MP in order to execute highly damaging attacks as well as special moves and skills .

That is precisely what I'm saying Kor. Thank you for clarifying that.
Let's keep the suggestions lighthearted and productive. I would prefer no derailing arguments please. Thank you.
