so i was wondering about Whm and WP

was on tonberry king in a wp speed run, and the whm was apparently being attacked by 1 tonberry... then died. I asked him why he didnt just clerics stance and dps it down?

he proceeded to flip, saying its the dps' job to kill mobs attacking the healer...which i dont agree with, but under normal circumstances i wouldnt mind. In this particular circumstance i dont think the dps should stop dpsing the boss to kill one mob that a healer can kill in 1 or 2 cast. C'mon if you let yourself get owned by a derpberry you shouldnt throw a tantrum right?

does this kind of thing happen to people often? just wondering

No...it doesn't umm, Push them away with our water spell and put them to sleep. WTF? died off one Tonberry...

I've personally never even been attacked by a to berry in that fight, so I can't say anything from experience.

However, my answer to your question is based off of the situation at the moment. I have three answers.

1. If the tank has full/near full Hp, and mp is not an issue, AND you don't have any AoE, don't be afraid to Swiftcast/Holy a bit. However, this may cause more tonberries to attack you, leading to a slippery slope.

2. If the tank has full/near full Hp, and mp IS an issue OR you have good AoE, run into the center stack and have the the AoE to kill it and keep up with the tank.

3. If the tank has less than half Hp (around 1/4 left really), it's up to the Dps to identify that and take care of the Tonberry OR if you have good AoE, run into the center stack.

At least, that's my opinion on that.

If you're a DPS that doesn't care about your healer, don't be surprised when your healer doesn't care to heal you. I always keep an eye out for the healer, and will even tank mobs for a healer because they're busy healing, which is something they can't exactly stop doing just because the tank decides to be a derphead and not bother to pick up stray mobs.

The best way to do this fight is for the whm to stand in the center wait for the tonberrys tocome to center switch to clerics and cast 1 holy.. 1 holy is all it takes and then they can switch back out of clerics to heal the tank... A healer who just stands there and waits for people to take damage and doesn't cast a dps spell inbetween is a bad healer...

I agree with this, though XIV is a weird game in the sense that the only thing a DPS can really do to save their healer is to kill the mob out right (no problem in this case because of the mob). If it was any other mob, the WHM is pretty much on their own since their healing aggro will far outpace any DPS aggro, so they will need to heal themselves through the beating.

IN THE SAME TOKEN though, it was a Speedrun. The players would've been fairly overgeared. Why the WHM didn't just kill the tonberry him/herself, I don't know. I can one shot all the tonberries in a single Holy (I tend to do this as Grudge is going off so it doesn't accumulate much Rancor).

Sometimes (REALLY REALLY RARELY THO) a tonberry can attack us (The healer). Is it the Dps job to take him down? No and yes. Whm just need to cast Fluid Aura and the Tonberry will be pushed back to the middle. then the Aoe of the Dps should take care of it. If for whatever reason the tonberry is still alive or another one come to you, just circle around a bit so he walk back to the center.. If that doesn't work then just use DS + Regen on both the tank and yourself and just kill it.. Stick your DoTs, push it back and kill it... If Whm and Sch got Cleric Stance and Dps move... It's not for nothing! And that boss is a joke to cure! DS + Regen work for most of the fight(Exept when he does Everyone's Grudge with 5 stacks...And even with that, the animation is soo long that you have enough time to switchback to healing stance and put a C2 on the tank at the same time that when he'll receive dmg)

I just find it absurd, our only job, only actual thing we MUST do is cure the person that is dying, and we are very good at it. If it was 2 or 3 Ton, or even maybe a couple of the Skele with undergeared beginning end game gear I could see that too. However one Tonberry which btw can be slept is not ok to die from. I think the WHM was feeling overwhelmed, fell into panic, froze up on what to do and dropped. It happens to the best of us, but pinning it on others even if legit given the vast tools in our tool chest for those issues is not an excuse.

speedrun or not, I always kill every tonberry and just let DPS beat the King fast.

however, if your healer not used to do that or tank was deadly low, you might as well so kind to help killed the mob rather than let the healer died then bitch about them knowingly you can help him/her in jiffy.

then, again, i don't thinks healing a tank in the King fight is that much dedicated job to the point healer don't have time to even heal/regen him/herself.
