minor quibble...we didn't even have Dynamis in "Right After Zilart", that came with Chains.Right now FFXIV's content is comparable to what FFXI had right after Rise of the Zilart: we had the city missions, AF gear quests, Dynamis and Sky, a handful of Burning Circle Notorious Monsters and the ground kings, and a few miscellaneous things like Expeditionary Force which nobody did. I'm pretty confident ARR is outpacing its elder sibling in terms of content.
It's really disingenuous to try to collapse seven years of FFXI into some homogenous "pre-Abyssea" experience or to pretend that it had some rich open world that FFXIV doesn't. As an endgame 75 in Zilart era, you followed a strict path of EXP camps to get to 75, then logged in to do Dynamis once every three days and hung out in Sky if you had a shell that could compete there. You weren't traipsing around the countryside.

looked it up and I was wrong, to be honest I don't care XI's endgame was tedious and boy howdy people whine about lockouts here but at the same time want 72hr spawn HNMs and the crap "JP midnight" waits of XI back.

No one ever says this, but FFXI had lockouts too. They weren't timer based but they were essentially lockouts.
Ridiculously long leveling... (which I did enjoy, tbh)
Seals for xNM style events... (which was annoying to farm)
Ridiculous spawn timers
Paying for the lamp (iirc) to enter Dynamis.
And despite all that, I LOVED the game. I will continue to love XIV as well. The only thing I truly am disappointed with is the linear gear progression. I truly hope that this is just how its going to be in the early days. This is the one thing that will end up getting boring really fast if 1 year down the line its still "stack vit" (for PLDs) and thats it

So when someone with everything leveled to 50, fully geared and whatnot complains about a similar reason, what are you going to tell them? That he or she shouldn't have rushed?
I'm sorry, but I don't think it's fair to discredit someone's opinion based on that argument. Not to mention once you've leveled a class, you've already seen most of the content. They are basically missing on FATE grinding, or spamming the same levequests over and over again for crafting, or going around the same gathering nodes for hours. What content, exactly? The job quests?
Besides, most classes are so similar from one another that leveling another one doesn't seem like a new experience at all. So I ask you, what kind of content are you talking about?

give me some gear that actually does interesting things... give me a sword that has terrible stats but has a %chance to reset the timer on a cd... something interesting to tool around with.

Ooh ooh I know this one! Ahem...
If you hate the game so much why are you still subbed? Don't let the door hit you on the way out! Can I have your stuff?

What other MMOs have truly varied "content" while you leveled? The job quests can be interesting if you like to read the stories. its not for everyone but its still content. So when someone with everything leveled to 50, fully geared and whatnot complains about a similar reason, what are you going to tell them? most games, where you have to reroll a new character, you still do the same content over and over.
in FFXI you literally fought the same enemy type for 3~4 hours to gain 2 levels (maybe) while people constantly died or got lost on the way to the camp.
im not saying that you are wrong, just pointing out that most games have a level of repetition. especially if you have leveled 8+ classes.
By the time i leveled up /war /rdm /nin /blu /whm for my PLD main, i never wanted to level up anything again, because it was all the same thing after a certain point
