I hate comparing this game to FF XI because it isn't trying to be FF XI but -

And again, I sincerely apologize because I'm sure this topic has been done to death. I just feel the need to say it.

One point I am unable to get over is the way progression is handled. In FF XI (At least in the early days when it was 1-75 and WoTG was the newest expansion) you never felt like you would run out of content. Once you finished one expansion or piece of end game there was an entire new path with equally relevant rewards waiting for you,

I'm not asking for a 1-75 grind, or incredibly low % loot drops, or even NM spawn rates, I'm asking for options -AT SOME POINT-. I don't need it to be in 2.1, I don't even need it to be in 2.3. I just want content that isn't immediately outclassed by the next thing on the list.

And I know that FF XIV has not had even a shred of the time to expand to the point that WoTG FF XI was at (Four expansions at the time) but the way the current content is presented I'm skeptical that it ever will be.

    Sorry for the double post

Every piece of content is sequentially 'better' than the last, in a vertical progression. There are no 'alternatives' like in FF XI, at any point. Sky, Sea, Salvage, Limbus, Einherjar, Nyzul, various NMs, etc. This -compounded- with each expansion having its own story which contained difficult fights, and nation missions (No Grand Company missions exist which is disappointing in its own right). It's basically a matter of horizontally tiered progression (Each tier has it's own 'set' of content with comparable rewards and difficulty) vs. straight vertical progression (Content is sequential in both difficulty and reward).

What incentive do you have to leave Wineport or Mor Dhona once you hit 50? (These areas will just get more crowded over time as more people hit 50 as a result). You just Duty Find everything and stay in that one area or in Coil's case you just gather in Wineport.

You do know that FFXI was out 1 year in japan b4 USA got it (thats when i jumped on)? And during that time level 50 was the limit. And there where no special unlock level 30 jobs??

    How old is FFXIV ARR?

Relax we will get more content, its just that times change. Now everything is supposed to have been done yesterday. Back in 2004 it was more "ok" to use 3 months+ on a single expansion. (SEA level cap fights etc etc etc.)

So, you're comparing this game (that has been officially relaunched for 4 months) to a game after its 4th expansion had been released, and being concerned that this game doesn't have as much content? Just making sure that's what you're doing.

So, basically, you're going to compare a game that, for all intents and purposes, just launched, with a game that had been out for five years and had at least two expansions under its belt?

    ...Yeah, that seems fair.

Awww, Kiri beat me to it. And got the number of expansions right.

I feel like you're ignoring part of my post in an effort to try and burn or discredit me, but that's your right I guess.

I acknowledged that FF XIV hasn't had the time that FF XI has. I acknowledged that FF XI was on its 4th expansion at that point in time. But it's not solely a matter of how much content is available, it's a matter of the way the content is arranged (And will likely be arranged in the future). The way the content is currently laid out (Each step gears you up for the next until you reach a peak) as well as the statement/rumor that Binding Coil will eventually be lowered in difficulty for those who are unable to beat it just reinforces that concept of vertical progression. If content is constantly being outclassed by new content people will eventually abandon it. If content of similar strength is added instead, people will explore options as opposed to abandoning something in favor of something superior in every way.

the game is built to be vertical progression, that is a modern standard nowadays.

btw, coil and CT are the endgame raid for this current version, once a new expansion is out, it'll naturally have new endgame instances.

sorry double post. To OP. Yes there should be some little things to fill out time. And they are working on it. I would give the game at least 6 solid months b4 I would see red and start shouting for content beyond expansions limits.
But then again I play casual , and there is still a whole lot for me to do... Not possible to make everyone happy. Thats just life.

    I wouldn't be too worried.

    Look at this interview: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...pli=1&sle=true

    ――ちょうど姉妹作の「XI」も10周年を迎えます。「XI」との連携を求めている人も多いと思うのですが、そこはどうなのでしょうか?
The sister game XI is coming to it’s 10th year. I believe lots wanting connection with XI but what do you think about that?

Yoshida: First off XI has 10 years hisotry and a fairly stable community and the game system is also stable. First XIV needs to line up with it. Upon that be able to link and bring much better effect would be better. If FFXIV is helped by FFXI we may pull XI’s leg. So first make the 3 pillars and have community on top that in 2.0 and have a server which is stable like FFXI. After that linking them would have a much larger effect.
Yoshida says that basically FFXIV has to have its own content and stand on its own two feet first..like fix server issues, job balancing, tweaking, adding stats etc and then he will take things from FFXI. At least that is what I got from this.
