What I would really like to see is creating some new creative content rather than -just- copying the ffxi content. Maybe large interactive zones. Or zones that change at random (e.g. whenever a world-nm like behemoth spawns in a zone, it creates a small earthquake altering pathways or hills)

FFXIV could potentially add it many interesting things to make the world more dynamic and important.

How is it cooperative and interactive if you can just run into the beastmen camp alone, and get their aetheryte and have virtually zero chance of dying? Beastmen camps should be guarded and take a group. Make it a duty finder if you must or add some sort of auto grouping feature, but this is my main complaint about the boring overworld. There's no challenge in exploring and unlocking new parts of the map. To me, this is a real reason why the game doesn't feel as epic. The overworld is just taking up space, but not really adding any value to the game. Don't get me wrong, I like the game, but certain things just puzzle me. Why have an overworld if there are no dangerous areas/mobs that require group coordination?

i understand why se went this route. nobody wants to play a game where they're stuck at a certain point. and bicker about it all you want, but without the casuals you wont have a game to play. they overshadow these so called "hardcore" players by a huge margin. it's a delicate balance, and i think leveling shouldnt be a grind anyway. the most important stuff are in instances which the game kinda forces you into very early on. It introduces a lot of mechanics to "casuals" that have probably never experienced this kind of gameplay before.

So all in all, I think at this point its pretty much an introduction to how an MMO should be played. Introducing and familiarizing people with game mechanics, social interaction, etc. People are actually partying up rather than going solo all the time, which to me is a good thing. heck everyone is pretty much on TS/vent/mumble/etc for end game content, even the casuals. Its pretty amazing actually.

true fact it takes a lot of energy for the human brain to process info so we are looking at a large migration towards stimulus vs. lazy brains that need simplicity as satisfaction

The fact is people want a quality game and not another copy of a certain MMO. They, me included, don't want a hub world where you only spam dungeons to get gear and repeat the process once new content gets released. We want more depth and a quality game.
While I agree with you, Yoshi has already made his design choice but its a little too late and well I dont see it getting better anytime soon or at all in the near future. This game has such potential but is being held back by design choice more than anything. If the dev's act now they maybe able to pull it off but they probably wont before its too late, the damage will already be done.

i think its a catch 22 damned if you do damned if you don't deal... make it harder for the hardcores and lose the reg players or leave it easy and bore the hardcore .. tough choice not to mention the drop of the new consoles ppl buying them new games etc

Actually I would if they stopped catering to the 'casuals' and brought back the real hardcore gameplay where you pull 1 wrong thing by accident and the party wiped. Those were some of the funnest times I've had in a game (even passing old EQ in its early days... though trains to the zone line were pretty fun ;P)

these are places not zones. the zone is the whole map you are on at the time. places are on said map and will often show when you reach them. so what if many of these are close. and not all are close anyway, going from Ul'Dah to Gridania on foot will take you a heck of a lot longer than 2 minutes. or maybe from Gridania to Revenants Toll? your argument is full of holes. you are comparing places to zones.

then again you probably dont remember just how small the world FFXI had was before CoP was released do you? this game has a pretty big set of maps for something to start with if you think about it and they only plan to add more to it

my guess is you rushed your way to endgame thinking it was going to be super exciting and a great challange. got news for you. XI wasnt that way either. but the good news is we got a producer who actually plays and is excited about making the game better so it will happen if you give it time. the magic is still there but you rushed right past it
