Why so much animosity toward Dragoons?

Another problem stems from the lack of diverse play style mechanics amongst the classes atm.
After phase2 beta, they started making every class the same, by giving them all short buffs, and short debuff/DoTs.

Both MNK and DRG have positional attacks, etc.

A lot of people (Not suggesting most, just a large enough population) want a more direct burst dmg type of class, with less (actually none at all.) DoT/buff management.
(Which sounds lazy, if implemented solely as a 123 class, but WoWs fury warrior got it right, where you rely on reactionary abilities, that trigger under certain conditions. So a skilled WAR was quick to activate those off the GCD reactionary abilities. And completely veers off the path of typical DPS play style mechanics. )

Most of these players (at least from what i see) tend to want to be armor clad fighters, with a big weapon.

So the closest things are WAR and DRG.

And the non tank, DRG, wins! (along with those same people wanting to wear "Dragon looking armor with spikes")

And funny part, large amount of that hatred comes from... ? Yeh u know it Drg's and mnk's... I think if ppl on these forums would just use their head and some common sence, most hatred would go away... But yeh, internet -.-

Because one class has to have more sillybeans and nitwits, thats just math, thats DRG for this game.

I would much rather have a Dragoon on my group then a Monk. I just like how the Dragoon flows with my Paladin.

1) There are so many bad DRG out there its not funny. If I have to PUG Coil for any reason I have to use a secondary class (which are not really Coil geared, but my WHM is at least passable for it) or I can't get in any group at all, even those looking specifically for a "melee DPS" (seriously, just say MNK if that's what you want and stop being idiotic). No, I'm not a bad DRG at all, I'm geared, I know the fights, and I can, most importantly, dodge. Yes, most DRG have no idea how to dodge at all and only use the TTT combo, thinking they're amazing DPS for it.

2) Even at our best, we're the weakest DPS in the game with similar gear (BRD exception, but no one takes a BRD along for DPS). We're melee, and have terribad magic defense, which means any DRG that can't dodge is a dead derpoon unless the heals are absolutely amazing.

3) Coil drops throwing things at DRG aren't helping either, gearing bad DRG who manage to slip through the cracks or people's secondaries that don't get the attention needed to be a good DRG. Which only hurts DRG who have worked for their gear and know fights, since gear for DRG doesn't provide as much of a possible indication of skill like it is for other jobs.


The hate against DRG I see has gotten so bad that I do regret gearing mine over WHM at times. Even with the people I run with, I don't DRG nearly as much as I should, having to heal or tank most of the time (partially due to us having so few heals and tanks, partially due to people only having one or two DPSs leveled, partially because everything else is better DPS than DRG).

This kinda tells me that ppl making the grp's are bad, not the brd!! U know something is wrong when u stack 2x the weakest dps in game atm!
Anyway, i think hatred toward any class is uncalled for.. I would not go to coil whitout a melee, ranged, tank and healer..

I'm gonna be hated for this but I will say it anyways.

Majority of the players make choices depending on their personality and certain demographic. Ok I said majority, I know there are exceptional players out there that made their decision based on knowledge of the job or because they truly enjoy playing it.

If a potential player that doesn't know anything about MMO or/and doesn't have good taste, they tend to pick the "cool and edgy" class/job which happens to be DRG. Most kids will pick the "cool, edgy, spikey" type characters. It's just an easy choice for herp-derp players. Maybe even the same players that names their character XxShadowCloudxx XxDarkSephirothxx.

That is why you encounter more bad DRGs more than you would compared to any other classes/jobs. And I'm just not talking about bad/unskilled player, just downright dumb people, I've encountered so many in several occasions.

1. DRGs (yes more than one) affix the wrong materias for their relic weapon. Both offered a huge amount of gil for the melds (maybe bought gil?). One even asked me why they couldn't turn in the quest, later on found out that they had the pole-arm equipped.

2. DRGs wearing Toxotes gear etc.

3. I have finished 9 relics and most of them were PUG'd. You get a DRG in a group especially for Chimera, more than likely they will die or will do stupid things even after you give them specific instructions. And to make it worse, they will be the first ones to complain. "Suck healer lol" I was in a PUG Titan with a DRG with full AF and GC weapon complaining about the repeated wipes and said that the fight wasn't hard, he was always the first one to die and blame it on lag or bad healer. Being bad is one thing, but blaming others just grind my gears.

4. So many PUG AK's where I've seen DRG's spamming Chaos Thrust (or other skills), I asked them why and one said it's becuase it's the highest skill. Lower level skills are not even on his hot bar. Another one replied "I do tend to use jump when needed."

DRG is just an easy choice for people in general because of it's aesthetics and it's because it's the cool and edgy heavy hitter job. Unfortunately, there are a lot more bad players that make bad decisions out there that picked this the class which gives it a bad name. In my opinion DRG is not bad, I like it better than playing BLM or SMN but I enjoy MNK more.

I don't mind them, but they are often up there with those male miqo'te paladins as far as having bad attitudes.

Funny, from my experience I'd say there are far more bad monks than any dps class in the game.

Agreed. I see way more bad monks and bards than anything else.
