Why so much animosity toward Dragoons?

Just curious. I chose to play a Dragoon because I enjoy Melee DPS and after leveling both Dragoon and Monk for a few levels (I actually started with the Monk), I chose to stick with the Dragoon. But, a lot of people seem to like to make snide comments about the class and I'm just curious as to why? It's not like we're even over powered or FoTM. I play a Dragoon because I think it's fun and I love how iconic it feels playing the class.

Do most Dragoon's you encounter just suck at life or what?

You guys get all the loot in Coil. That and it's always the dragoon that dies first...

But I really don't have anything against Dragoons.

The Coil thing really isn't the Dragoon's fault and the death thing... well, we have the worse magical defense in the game and most AOEs are magic based, are they not? That leads to a lot of one shot kills. Especially when the player is having issues with the server showing that they're in AOEs that they can't see...

maybe it's left over from FFXI days where peopled loled if you were leveling as Dragoon (I stopped playing sometime between CoP and Treasures)?

Some of the most badass people in my Free Company are Dragoons.

That said, whenever I party with randoms 9 times out of 10 the Dragoon is an idiot. I don't know why, but I so often run into such bad Dragoon players who can never grasp the concept of "don't stand in stupid" xD

1. Its left over from my loldrg days on FFXI.
2. 90% of coil drops are for said loldrg.
3. Did AK last night in pug, drg had 5 peices of darklight and couldn't dps his way out of a box, sadly this seems typical of most drg's I have played with.
4. Drg's seem to have a intimate relationship with the floors in any dungeon or raid.

I want to add that I play with 3 very good drg's in my FC. The hate you speak of only applies to about 75% of the drg community.

It's this, I find mostly.

Majority of Dragoons I and others meet are just face rolling the keyboard and don't do very well. They just spam whatever, whenever - now this would be fine if it weren't for the animation locks DRG suffers from. See Titan HM, do a jump and a landslide or plumes occur you can say goodbye to that guy. Or even DRG's that jump as the purple goo is spawning under them in Demon Wall so they get hit by it.

Though I've found over time that less bad players are on DRG now days, there's still some around though.

You are most certainly not FotM... That is the problem, Dragoon is that one melee you have to have in party for LB3 if you can not get a Monk. Every class is considered better than DRG atm. The problem grows stronger because alot of newbies pick that class as they like being knights in shining armours but being a tank is too much of a responsibility. These two facts combins to that DRGs are shunned down upon.

Personally though, I do not dislike Dragoons. I know some really great Dragoons. All DPS classes are totally viable right now (it looks bleach for BLM though after 2.1 with melee buff) some are better than others, but there is no reason to totally dismiss one DPS class.

As I said every class is perfectly viable right now. The DPS is pretty even. I do however prefer monks over DRG. But I would rather have a DRG than no melee at all. The biggest reason is as some have pointed out (including myself) that DRGs are a new players magnet and that they seem to enjoy the floor more than they should.
