I wouldn't call it "animosity" per se... It's more like picking a younger sibling. Sometimes they do exceptionally well, but you can't tell them that, it'll swell their heads; however, when they do terribly, it's everyone's job to pick at them. Though, I won't lie, my resident dragoon is pretty badass, but even with all of his gear and skill, he still eats crow every now and again during raids, which serves to re-enforce that I must pick at him, else his pride will swell too much.

Lol. But really, the only Job I've seen ever, literally, leap off of cliffs to their deaths by mistake or other extenuating circumstances is Dragoon. But they were going to die anyway, right? Might as well go out in style!

Of course, don't take me seriously, but really, Dragoons are the "little brothers" of the game. It's our job to tease them. It keeps them "down to Earth".

I believe it may stem from the "Triple Thrust" spamming Dragoons. I do my best to educate the TTT spamming drg when I run into them. Surprisingly, most of time they were not aware of Heavy Thrust's 10% damage bonus, Disembowel, Life Surge, Blood for Blood, DoTs, Power Surge, Jumps, AOEs. I am not exaggerating.

I can see why a lot of Dragoons don't jump due to it's current mechanics but you're missing out on so much DPS by not jumping at the correct times and utilizing all of your buff and debuffing tools.

Leap off of cliffs..... or rocks floating in the middle of nowhere *waves at Titan*

Needless to say my evasive jump is in a spot where it can't "accidentally" be hit anymore

Personally looking forward to seeing how Jumps and such have been tweaked when 2.1 hits in a week and a half.

To address what Tanama said, that can be said of any class.. if you don't know your tool set properly, you're going to suck plain and simple.

Didn't notice people had a problem with DRG. People in and out of my FC are always wanting my DRG damage in parties.

If I had to find out what the animosity was, it is likely a few things.

*Some may see it as the easy version of playing a melee DPS in comparison to MNK, who's rotation is more complex than DRG's.
*Coil's rewards were unbalanced, favoring certain pieces, most common ones belonging to DRG.

As I said every class is perfectly viable right now. The DPS is pretty even. I do however prefer monks over DRG. But I would rather have a DRG than no melee at all. The biggest reason is as some have pointed out (including myself) that DRGs are a new players magnet and that they seem to enjoy the floor more than they should.

LOL! I've never accidentally used elusive on Titan and leaped off the platform, but then again, I normally only use elusive if I need a threat dump. I find it much easier to just move out of any AOE manually. As far as jumps and proper rotation, I definitely use them all. Well, I won't use jumps much when fighting bosses that have major damage AOE (I'm looking at you Titan), but if the situation is optimal, I normally keep all of my abilities off the global cool down on cool down. I also try to keep HT and the ID/Dis/CT debuffs up all the time.

To be honest, I personally never really hear any grief from anyone. I just got the impression from reading these boards that being a Dragoon is some times frowned upon and wondered why.

I show no animosity towards DRG, but when I see one in a DF group I usually sigh to myself.
A few months back the FC and I made a drinking game; take a shot everytime the DRG dies on garuda.
No idea why, but that class seems to attract the most....special of players.
I have encountered a -very- small handful of great DRGs using the DF/pugging in shout before, but they are definitely outnumbered =P

As a monk with DRG at 34 I can't say too much about damage comparison besides what I've seen in groups. That being said I've seen a DRG keep up with me no problem a couple times....but 90% of the ones dont so I think its player skill and knowledge of the class. I don't think its lol status right now, but like monk it takes some skill being up close and still putting out good DPS.

Just as many bad MNK's as there are DRG's. I actually worry more about MNK's in DF parties because there is a decent chance you get one who doesn't know how to use his moves right. In all fairness to both jobs though, not being good at your job is a universal thing.
