    I think you mean figuratively, because you can progress just fine on alt classes. Maybe not to i90 gear, but you can still do other non end-game things.

    That is, unless you have every class at 50, all combat in full DL, all relic +1, all crafters/gatherers in overmelded HQ class gear. If you have all that, and every achievement (which you don't) then you still have options. You just make a choice to focus on only 1 aspect of the game.

    Edit:

    Lets do this by numbers. There's 6 different sets of gear that will drop, each containing 12 pieces at most.

    6*12 = 72 pieces of gear

    They want CT to last approximately 3 months, or ~90 days, until patch 2.2 comes out and gives us more "true endgame".

    ... 1 piece every 30 hours.

    The shortest logical cooldown on CT gear would be 30 hours. It will most likely be 36 or 48. Possibly even longer because they don't expect (or want) anyone to farm all 6 sets in 3 months.

    However we know there's only 4-5 bosses, per what Yoshi said in the Live Letter.

    72 pieces of gear / 4 bosses = 18 items in each bosses loot pool

    That's not going to happen.

    Now, let's flip it to the conservative side, and say 5 pieces per set (the visible, non-weapon slots).

    30 pieces of gear total, 2160/30 = 1 piece every 72 hours.

    This number is much more logical (and more likely), but I would say anywhere between 36-72 hour lockout on gear is acceptable.

    Well there goes me doing this with my FC atall then. I'm going to run it once with a party of 8 of them to see the sights, then solo queue for the dang thing. I get my piece of gear, im dropping out. This makes absolutely no sense. How do they not see this coming??

    Maybe people don't want to level alts and want to run CT for gear.

    The game design is suppose to cater to the player, not the other way around.

    "What? You're not doing everything possible in this game? Then you're playing it wrong!" lawl. How do you even write that without realizing how stupid it sounds?

    I thought the point of having all this stuff in MMOs was to cater to many different play styles.

    36-72hr lockout on Crystal Tower gear is totally unacceptable. I'm sorry but a 12hr lockout on Crystal Tower would be to much. We can throw numbers around all day isn't going to help until we get an official answer.

    The gap between content updates is going to be smaller form here on out, so forced pacing won't be as necessary (hence no lockout on the dungeon runs).

    EVERY MMO UNDER THE SUN has some kind of lockouts or limits on content to prevent the content from being "used up" faster than they can develop it. It is useless to complain about it as if it's only something that happens in this game and that people quit because of it, because it just isn't true. If you don't like it here, you won't like it in any other MMO in existence.

    Why a lootlock?
    Well because otherwhise the darklight gear would be completely useless. Everyone could just farm the crystal tower gear in one day.
    That's not how it's intended, especially after they wanna put in a few different ways to farm philos and mythos.

    Please tell me how many major mmos have WEEK LONG lockouts? with ~18 items in a loot table?
