Every single piece of content / dungeon they add to this game has some lore behind it. This isn't WoW (hate to have to use wow as an example since everyone does) where 90% of the time you aren't even sure why you're doing a raid / quest. Most if not all dungeons have at least have some lore associated with it. With that being said, why is it wrong they want to make it difficult to start with and easy mode later on? They want people to feel achievement by seeing and reading what happens next in the story.. if it were easy, would you still feel that achievement? /shrug I guess it's just a difference of opinion between us.

Either way, I'm all for how they're instituting it (hard at first, ezmode buffs later).
