→All materials will be returned to your inventory.

    • Cancel while in mid-craft (After performing even a single action)
→All materials will be lost. This is to ensure that you cannot cancel when it looks like you are going to fail.

    • Durability reaches 0
→There is a chance that materials will be returned to your inventory at a set rate
    Why can't:

    • Cancel while in mid-craft (After performing even a single action)
    • Durability reaches 0
    Just do:

→There is a chance that materials will be returned to your inventory at a set rate
At least you won't *always* lose your mats if you accidentally cancel/get disconnected. It also seems impossible to abuse if canceling has the exact same effect as outright failure.

I can't cancel my crafting or you guys delete all of those valuable materials. I can't withdraw from the DF, because it could have easily been a 30+ minute wait (I waited 85 minutes once). The only other option is to hurry up and rush through the crafting process, so I can switch classes and accept the dungeon prompt. But then I might accidently use a wrong ability at the wrong time and mess myself up.

So while I understand why you did the above, the fact is, I would REALLY appreciate the ability to just cancel my combine without losing my materials, so that I can quickly take that dungeon pop.
Yeah that scenario you mentioned really isn't worth allowing abuse of crafting.

How about an option to 'PAUSE' your synth? When you return from the DF, you must resume your synth the next time you go to synth with that particular crafting job. I think many of us have been in a similar situation to yours and realize the frustration.

I'm suggesting that if you cancel, you get the same exact effect as if you fail. So canceling to avoid a fail would not gain you anything.

So you can't abuse cancelling. But you can abuse failing on purpose, to get materials back.
Why don't they just remove the ability to cancel mid-synth turn it into pause synth, that you can continue later.

It solves the problems, of getting your DF pop or getting DCed. While having no way for it to be abused.

Of course that's a much better solution, but I also imagine it requires more work.

Having "cancel" and "fail" act the exact same way seems easier to implement. If nothing else than to improve the disconnect behavior until they have time to provide a more robust solution.

It's a choice you made to craft while waiting on df. If you do not want to miss a df pop or waste valuable mats then simply don't do expensive synths during your wait. And df gives you a full minute anyway and changing jobs is a one-click function. I don't really see a conflict here worthy enough of making crafting abuse rampant.

So, wasting my time to fail on purpose is better than just cancelling the synthesis? Cancelling mid-craft ought to be the same as "Durability reaches 0".

You're basically trading speed for convenience.
