Dear Healers that don't DPS in dungeons

Well that goes without saying. There is no point in DPS'ing if your not keeping ppl alive but the key to DD WHM/SCH is knowing when to DD and when to heal. Dancing in and out of stance.

My cure II's does about 1700~ HP average unbuffed so topping my tank is relatively easy

I agree completly, as with my macros I can heal 14k on average without a crit with just a physick and embrace macro. Keeping people alive isn't much of an issue. I think many people are trying to say that when you go into a group and you get griped at for NOT dpsing when you're doing your job as a healer isn't laziness. Its just choosing priorities. If that makes any sense.

To point out...I think WHM would be more fun to dps with than SCH becuase dots and ruin spam is boring (spec when ruin hits for 220 in cleric stance bleh).

I don't understand either. With this line of reasoning, perhaps WHM should have a cute little moogle pet that can DPS for us while we heal. Seems fair enough.

I get bored of solo healing garuda because it is so easy, so I need to start doing dps....makes for interesting 5 min garuda runs though.

I love tanks like OP. As a SCH I can just put one of the ranged DPS on /follow then go afk or watch some TV or make dinner while Eos heals through everything

im used to getting hate in dungeons even if i dont dps, so why should i not holy and stun shit while at it when i can do damage and also mitigates damage taken? Ive been confronted with situations that i found putting a few holy's in would turn around the fight, while only healing would wipe us. Putting in a few holys im mitigating a tonne of damage that on occasions would kill the tank. But thats not all, a lot of tanks, dps get aoe'd by red circles so if im holying not only im stunning that but also reducing the likelihood of a death due to the fight going for another orbit if i was just healing.

I DPS depending on the group and how they handle hate and how much damage they take. I am a confident healer, that is why I DPS. I don't run out of MP and I don't let people die. If either of those two start to happen, I will stop. Yes, I am a healer first but I will DPS if I find it opportune. Not only does several of my attacks help damage mitigation (Miasma + Ruin II) but it makes things go faster and keeps me engaged and from falling asleep. I will always watch my hate level and if it gets worrisome, I will stop as hate control is important for everyone. DPSing as a healer is fine as long as you know what you are doing. Have to watch the MP, have to watch the hate levels, and most importantly you can never forget you ARE a healer first. Never get to absorbed in dealing damage.

Don't generalize the job based on 1 bad healer

I'm not generalizing the job. It happens to be my job. But the fact is, I keep hearing horror stories from tanks that I heal for where they encounter healers that can't seem to balance tank health & DPSing at the same time. Are there healers who can? Yup. Are there a lot of healers who just can't? Yup.

I'm totally opposite. I prefer to be SCH in dungeons because I feel much more comfortable doing DPS while healing, since Eos is there to help should anything go sideways.

So, you are thanking healers for poor play?

There was a few posts about tanks dropping at fights because the healer was DPSing. That is THAT healers fault not all of us. Most of us know when we have to heal and when we can DPS. SCHs have our fairies to heal for us while we DPS and WHMs cures are huge to play re-actively. If there is no healing to be done you would serisouly rather have a healer that just stands there and looks pretty?

To whoever mentioned hate issues:

I DPS pretty hardcore in AK and Palace runs a lot of times not even switching out of ClericStance for the entire ID. How are these people pulling hate? Are you sure it isn't that you are not tanking properly?
