Gear progression is so fast that it's hard to even enjoy the Ifrits weapon. Crafting/Lvling gear isn't much better. You don't even need to upgrade leveling gear often if you're just going to zerg fates and crafting gear gets replaced like every 3 levels (extremely fast with repeatables) Gearing just isn't satisfying. Now everyone is just walking around with full dl and relic that it just feels like the norm.

    Um, no. That was at E3, and Yoshida-san said the game would release with 40 zones and that he planned to have up to 80 zones in the current game before the expansion pack.

    Except it's not the cause of the biggest complaints in this game. The biggest complaints involve encounters and mechanics and everything BUT the casuals.

    EVen without the casuals you'd still be complaining about the lack of content. This happens every.single.time a game is newly released. The "hardcores" bitch and moan that the casuals are ruining the game and there's nothing to do. I've seen this happen in every single new MMO release in the last 20 years.

    The problem is time and money. SE has limited time and money to produce content. IT takes far more time to create content then to clear it. As such the Myths are capped to slow the no lifers down.

    I know you're going to make a snide remark about my level so I'll just pre-empt that. I learned some time ago that rushing to the end game to engorge my e-penor rarely provides lasting satisfaction. So I take my time now and enjoy the voyage instead of focusing on the end point.


    EDIT : These forums are terribly designed and the incredibly small limit on posts size prevent any real discussion from being possible.

    Alot of that magic is partial nostalgia. FFXI came out way earlier in peoples lives. However, alot of the glamour of older games like that came in it's difficulty.

    But the problem is, MMO's hit the mainstream. Back when it was a niche for people who loved real fantasy worlds, and exploring things, slowly but surely working on their character, and building relationships. Now MMO's are just a central hub for instant gratification players to group up, force everyone to play their way, complain that a run took 15 minutes instead of 14:59, and shout how they have no time for this game yet they want everything. It's mind numbing.

    TLDR; This game didn't lose its magic. In my opinion MMO gaming has lost its magic, FFXIV is no different. Although I heavily HEAVILY enjoy this game because of the free company i've made and the personalities of the people within it. They are what keep me going and enjoy this game tremendously.

    I agree gear progression in this game is poorly done, it would be nice if players could have some enjoyment with their primal weapons like in 1.0 but nope... relics are so easy to attain that its mandatory to have for each job now and more or less a requirement for parties. Plus going from 1 to 50 you barely have to gear up at all considering fates are so easy x.x and grindable.

    Yeah it would also be cool if they added effects like ifrit weapon + occasional fire dmg, Garuda occasional wind dmg, + bonus dmg against clowns, etc. Gearing right now is just too bland and too frequent, sorta like looting in Diablo 3.

    Funny as it may sound, but i bet most of the Players here probably didn't Start with mmorpgs before WoW got released.
    And we all Know which direction Games started to take after that particular game.

    To be perfectly honest, if i hadn't started with Games like FFXI, EQ or ragnarok online i probably wouldn't understand what the OP is getting at aswell.

    Exploration has been alot more engaging and interesting in the past games.
    You Lot say you don't Want to spend that much in a Game to get Things done, i suggest you to Play Single Player Games or Call of Duty than.

    If you take the Adventure to Explore out of an RPG what we're Left with is a Game where all we do is Grind for Equipment.

    It's quite simple. SE went with the "mainstream casual MMO" path for FFXIV to get more money. Before this game was released, SE was in heavy financial issues. Now with the success of FFXIV, they're doing pretty okay again.

    Going casual is the key to get money today, simple as that. Attract the mainstream.
