What makes you think that Black Mages won't be able to heal themselves? According to how Jobs were described, equipping a job shut out access to some of the other classes abilities. That's some, not all, and not the class you are on. I don't know about anyone else but it seems logical to me that Conjurer is going to unlock Black Mage. Conjurer's have the cure spells. Don't exactly see SE locking out your own classes abilities.

Black Mages would specialize in casting damage dealing spells, so they probably would be locked out of healing, yet gain a buff to elemental damage and access to new spells and abilities. Its most likely going back to the job system style of FF III,IV,V, and IX where characters had clear defined roles instead of having access to multiple skills sets.

There are a few tiny nuggets of fact that can be gleaned from Matsui-san's letter, but a lot of speculation and room for interpretation.

+1 to adjusting calm, however it is worthwhile to word things in such a way to make clear that this IS speculation, if for no other reason then to keep the tone civil.

However, speculation back and forth on the pros and cons gives lots of good ideas / feedback to the devs as they keep moving forward with the job system, in my personal opinion (you see what I did there?).

Adjust my what? Please don't make assumptions about my current state of emotion. I'm just saying read the letter. It is pretty clear exactly what jobs are in the most basic definition. Party roles for the already existing classes. The only way a black mage is not going to have heal spells, if we go by exactly what was said, is if they removed cure from conjurer or another class unlocks it, such as Thaumaturge.

In fact when put that way, it kinda sounds like a unique addition to MMORPGs IMO. I'm kinda wondering what they're going to be doing to current and future classes though.
