And I don't know how it is in America, but between you there and Japan over the other side of the globe, here's another continent, y'know, by the name of Europe. GMT time for this maintenance is 04:00-10:00, translates to 05:00-11:00 for CET if I'm not mistaken - BAM, just the time when most people are either in school or at work. They must totally be catering for us. Except, they don't.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to put your maintenance on prime time just so that it's easier for your own maintenance schedule. As far as I can tell those maintenance time don't really benefit Euros, and Japanese are on their own server in theory. If other MMORPG operated on the same logic, then all US based MMORPG would have patch time at 1pm-5pm or so. Instead usually patch time is at 1am because they want to minimize disruption to their customer base as much as possible. The funny thing is that it'd be considerably less of a problem for Japanese guys to maintain server at 1am compared to any US based company, yet apparently US based companies have no problem getting up at 1am to do maintenance.

It doesn't make sense to put people on call and pay them for the entire maint shift even if they don't get the call. It's a waste of money. They also didn't bring down just the NA data center. They took down all of them. Why break up the work when you can just get it done wholesale?

Wouldn't you rather have all of your people in their chairs ready to go if/when all hell breaks loose, or would you rather have them sleeping in their beds and dragging ass into the office giving 50% and not 110%.

I have an idea. Act as if. Act as if you were running the business end. What makes more sense?
