The problem is they stated only the first SS would be taken into account, they even said to use the discussion thread to post rough drafts, the fact that they picked your second picture kind of goes against the rules they created.

They said: "If multiple entries are posted, only the first one submitted will be accepted." I did not submit more than one entry, I did not change who I was doppleganging as. But if you want to be as literal as only the 1st screenshot will be accepted, I'm fine with that too. You guys are really taking this thing way too seriously.

If this is the kind of backlash the community team can expect for every contest, I can assure you guys they'll stop having them all together.

If they plan to run contests in a similar fashion, it would be for the best that they don't have them. I would prefer contests follow their own guidelines for selection rather than haphazardly throwing something together before work ends on Friday.

Can you really defend seven out of eight sylph entries winning? But none that featured a single seasonal NPC? There were many, many entries that didn't win despite being superior and many that won for... seemingly no reason.

Honestly the biggest problem with all of this is Square Enix's blatant disregard for their own guidelines. I understand that you won, but please look at this from the standpoint of some other people. I want to distance myself from the typical sore loser, I'm not mad that I lost, I'm mad at how I lost. It's obvious that Square Enix made some huge boo boos in the decision making process, and I don't mean in their opinions, as the way some of these were decided is kind of silly. As previously stated, there's tons of duplicates, this is bad, and doesn't follow the uniqueness and creativity promoted.

For future entries, I suggest making the entries private and making an OPTIONAL entry thread so that people may share their pictures if they choose. This would decrease the amount of copy cats and competition within a particular subject.

I really love the game and I enjoyed this contest, but its really disheartening with how a lot of the decision making was done, and I really hope that Square Enix can continue to offer us amazing contests and rewards in the future, but for it to be enjoyable some serious changes really need to be made. I want to reiterate that this isn't the plea of a sore loser, but the plea of someone who wants to enjoy the community services that Square Enix gives us.

There's a limited amount of subjects to doppelgang (yup I'm making that a verb) and a lot of people were going to have the same ideas even if they couldn't see everyone else's entries.

In fact, a bunch of people checked out everyone else's entries to make sure they WOULDN'T be the same/accused of being a copycat. Thus it's entirely possible that there would be even MORE people doing the same thing if we couldn't see everyone's entries.

In the years to come there will be plenty of exclusive events and prizes with items 80% of the player base will never have a chance to receive - each which are sure to come with a thread filled with dissatisfied players... (80% because it sounds like a good number, but you're welcome to debate it)... Though, I'm not fully educated in statistics, I think with 77 pages and ~750 entries meant we had ~15% chance of winning. If it was randomly pulled from a hat, it was still pretty decent odds... Or atleast its good enough for me... 15% is much higher than the chance of harvesting most of the level 10 materials on my level 8 miner ( I cant stand gathering... )

Anyways... Though many of us might disagree with some of the winning entries, SE isn't going to retract their decision...
So congratulations to the winners I'm sure there will be more to win next year, enjoy your victory while it lasts >:P

The reason I didn't enter was because I wasn't particularly interested in the necklace. However, should there be a prize item which I am interested in I want to know that the contest will be judged in a reasonable manner. If it's too difficult for SE to do so, then I would rather they didn't run contests and instead find other ways (in-game events, draws, whatever) to give them out. These are highly exclusive items which will probably have no other way to be earned in the future, if they aren't going to put in the effort or set aside the time then they really should find another way.
