I am confused as to why you think +1 is mandatory in coil?

    It isn't.

Actually I'm in turn 5, getting twintania to around 40%, and the biggest problem is over healing, even with shroud and interrupts. If you intend on beating turn 5 anytime soon, you probably should look into survivability and get the body pieces and belt first for the huge vit upgrades. (Whether it's allagan or aF) also, astral jewelry exist for a reason unless you're a scrub whm. You socket materia according to the main pieces you have.

And just like others said, ss and det have such little impact that it won't even matter, if you're over healing you're a problem, if you can't keep your tank topped off without +1, then you're depending on gear to be a good healer.

Where in my post did I say "+1 is mandatory for coil". I feel some people here are somehow getting the wrong idea. This thread was made so that people looking to min/max or get the most effective upgrades out of their characters can have a simple guideline. This is simply put a guide line that someone can follow in preparation for coil. Nothing more or less than that. I'm not saying people who buy Mythtome chest are bad at all. I am however saying that if you are looking for the biggest upgrade it's not myth chest first it's Thryus+1. Unless however you have a terrible chest piece then obviously it's not Thyrus+1. This guide was made under the assumption that most people spending myth would have at least most DL if not all DL.

Also like to point out that the Thyrus +1 GIVES vit along with other things so I don't understand how it doesn't add to your HP. Also keep in mind not only stats but the fact that Thyrus+1 is an increase to Magic Damage which is a modifier for our healing.

Doing the math Thyrus +1 gives about 5vit which turns out to be a 75hp upgrade and a HUGE healing upgrade VS AF1.5 Chest ( or Myth chest w/e you want to call it) which gives a 7 vit upgrade so in the difference of HP it's about a 30hp upgrade choosing Chest over Thyrus+1 and losing out on potential heals as the weapon is vastly superior.

Also as a side note I understand Twintania requirements and I have far more hp than necessary for T5 and currently on T5 and I certainly didn't get there with my gear but rather with individual skill. It's just interesting that in all videos and Screen Shot's of Twin kills there has yet to be a single WHM healer without a +1... just a bit odd IMO.

That's exactly the goal. If you are end-game progression raiding you want to have the best possible edge on anything and while the differences are minor they can make all the difference. Min/max, use food, practice till your fingers bleed etc.
