Doppelganger Screenshot Contest (NA) - Discussion Thread

Oh, don't misunderstand, I'm not advocating for every ghost or pumpkin head or cat lady impersonator to have won, I just find it incredibly strange that not a single one did. I'm fond of my own entry, obviously, so there's some bias, but I saw a few others which were very well-executed and I would have thought them very worthy of a prize. (Even if I didn't win, at least a good competitor might have taken my place. This was my entry.)

I'm actually surprised yours didn't place. I remember it being the closest to the NPC. :/

I know someone had closer matching shoes than I did, although I'm not sure where they got them. There was another entry of the NPC I chose that was especially good and had the /blowkiss emote too. I knew I had competition and would have accepted a lot of outcomes to this, but for none to be picked leaves me feeling like I lost before I entered. Especially when the contest was presented in the context of being semi-holiday related. I had no idea a holiday NPC would warrant an automatic loss.

"Things are starting to get a bit spookier in the realm and the citizens are beginning to see double! To celebrate this year's All Saints' Wake in true spirit, adventurers are being called upon to rummage through their armoury chest and search for equipment that will help them mimic their favorite NPC or monster in Eorzea!"

Grats to those who won, my entry was also one that won. I honestly didn't think the Halloween ones would place... at least I figured maybe 1 or 2 would.. the point wasn't to include Halloween into the contest... the contest was to dress your character in a costume to mimic and NPC or monster in the most creative way possible... there were only 100 selected out of about 700 screenshots. I know it's sad to not win when you really wanted to but there is no foul play here just because you didn't win.. =\

I'm not upset that I didn't win.

I'm upset that a lot of other people did win over entries (excluding mine) that were far superior. If I hadn't won I would have genuinely accepted this under most circumstances and congratulated the winners wholeheartedly.

100% agree with this. I enjoyed participating but I was shocked at what was chosen over others... it seemed like they weren't selecting based on the criteria they required from us when we were submitting. Also very surprised that none of the Holiday photos won.

I didn't even enter, I'm just bothered how there are some NPCs with 5-6 winners all copying the first person to do it. You say "most creative way possible" but I'm not seeing it here.

I'm not sure how something like Could have beaten yours. Were winners chosen out of a hat?

Maybe they can give out some kind of consolation prize.

Obviously they can't "take back" the winners and I wouldn't really wish that but I hope whoever was in charge of this doesn't judge any more contests. I can't find myself being arsed to enter if they use a random number generator (disqualifying certain categories) to determine winners.

Or at least just admit that entries which fall within the given rules are selected at random. It'll save people wanting to win a lot of effort.
