So... I shouldn't be able to do that? That's news to me. I'm serious. I cast Aero while moving on mobs. I thought it was supposed to be like this.I'll take a shot, it basically shows that servers themselves are laggy.
What we saw: WHM running around constantly and able to cast spells that require the caster to stand still.
What this means: Due to lag, the server ends up thinking that you are standing still half the time, which inturns, means that when people are running from pumes etc, even though they have cleared the danger zone, the server is thinking they have not (thx to lag).
He doesn't mind us conducting trials so close to his bazaar, so long as he's properly compensated... Yes, Portus, we pay him in sorcery-blasted bird flesh. - Cocobygo

This was how it originally was in 1.0, but was changed after Yoshi took over because it didn't mesh with how Yoshi envisioned casters operating. It would have made me much less angry if he hadn't specifically cited PVP with a several paragraph narrative when he was explaining his reasoning for the change. So yes, before PVP was even on the horizon it was already disrupting the game. -_-I notice that if I keep moving my position is updated more often and I get a much more generous window in which to dodge.
What they need to do is get rid of the need to stop moving while casting altogether and instead just make you move slower for the duration of the casting - that makes one less "check" the server has to do in order to make a spell cast successful.
Replace the cancel by movement with another method of cancellation entirely.

Next it will be your over 30 so it is natural that you are not as skillful (slower reflexes etc) since you are past your peak physical condition which we all know is 25 ,,,lol

My cast bar wont even go that far if I make any kind of movement.
Still can hardly ever dodge Weights, particularly post-heart. Tomorrow I'm going to try using ethernet instead of wireless, I guess... that's all I can think of that might help.

I have to say I'll be a mite sad when they fix this, as I love the fact that I can move my Thaumaturge with about .5 seconds left on her cast bar and get the cast off regularly.
Oh wait, no I won't, because it's BS and I've never seen it happen in an mmo before even though I've been playing em for 13 years on various computers and connection speeds.

Much love for this post here.I have to say I'll be a mite sad when they fix this, as I love the fact that I can move my Thaumaturge with about .5 seconds left on her cast bar and get the cast off regularly.

did a little test with my friend yesterday and found out that the measured latency with ping is not relevant
my friend have 150 ms and can cast 7 esunas in row
then he tried the same with battleping and could not cast even one, latency with battleping was roughly the same, 150 ms
that means his ISP is throttling the FFXIV communication for some reason and leaves the ping packets be
can it be because the port FFXIV uses is around 55k ? or is it because the packet seems like P2P communication ? or some other reason ?
anyway he is gonna roundhouse kick his ISP today :P

We really need to just start telling people the ability to do this makes the endgame way too easy and see if they'll 'fix' this unfair advantage.I have to say I'll be a mite sad when they fix this, as I love the fact that I can move my Thaumaturge with about .5 seconds left on her cast bar and get the cast off regularly.
